Delegates of Chau Thanh District People's Council voted to pass the meeting resolution.

At the meeting, delegates discussed and unanimously voted to pass the Resolutions on approving the policy of reorganizing An Giang and Kien Giang provinces. Specifically, establishing An Giang province on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population size of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces. The administrative and political center of An Giang province is located in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province today.

After the reorganization, An Giang province has a natural area of ​​9,888.91 km², a population of more than 4.952 million people; has 102 grassroots administrative units, including: 85 communes, 14 wards and 3 special zones.

At the same time, a resolution was passed approving the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units in Chau Thanh district, including the communes of Chau Thanh Dong, Chau Thanh Bac, Chau Thanh Trung, Chau Thanh Nam, and Chau Thanh Tay.
