Coach Ancelotti declares he will never return to lead Chelsea

"I have many great memories of Chelsea. I am a fan of the club. But returning to manage the team? No!", coach Carlo Ancelotti declared at a press conference ahead of the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Real Madrid and Chelsea tomorrow (02:00 April 13).

"I think Lampard is the right person for Chelsea at the moment and he will do a good job. Lampard is a very good coach, he has a great team and knows how to prepare for big matches," said coach Ancelotti.

Asked about the Blues' current situation, the Italian tactician added: "I'm a little sad because I had great memories and knew a lot of people there. I had two great years there."

In the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at home at the Bernabeu, coach Ancelotti hopes his team will repeat a similar result to last season's quarter-final, when Real Madrid beat Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate thanks to two late goals in the second leg.

Real Madrid then beat Man City 6-5 on aggregate in the semi-finals and beat Liverpool 1-0 in the final to win their 14th European Cup.

Asked if his team were a bit lucky to lift the trophy, coach Ancelotti said: "Are Real Madrid lucky in the Champions League? We deserved to win. If you come back to conquer the tournament, it means you always want to win it more. It's not luck."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid defender David Alaba said he and his teammates will have to try their best in the quarter-final match against the team at Stamford Bridge.

"We never underestimate Chelsea. The changes they made could affect things in some way — and we know that," Alaba insisted.
