On October 14, U23 Vietnam officially ended its nearly one-week training trip in the UAE. Before returning home, acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh had an interview with Tuoi Tre Online .
"Through two friendly matches with U23 Qatar, the coaching staff has had more realistic and comprehensive assessments of the players' professional ability, physical strength and competitive mentality," coach Dinh Hong Vinh shared.
He continued: "This is a very good opportunity for us to test the tactical system, the adaptability of each individual in different diagrams, and at the same time review the connection between the lines before entering the final preparation stage for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals.
The matches against strong opponents like Qatar help the coaching staff have more important data to adjust and perfect the team's personnel and playing style."
After 2 matches with U23 Qatar, U23 Vietnam lost 0-1 and 2-3 respectively, scoring 2 goals but conceding 4. Acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh said these were quality lessons for his players.
"For the players, this is a valuable experience in speed, physical strength, transition ability and tactical organization at the continental level. Through this, they better understand the requirements of discipline, 90-minute competition intensity and concentration in each situation - factors that still need to be improved.
The coaching staff will continue to help the players improve their quick decision-making skills, pressing ability and small group coordination in tight spaces, to best prepare for the next two important tournaments," said Mr. Vinh.
When asked about the performance of the new recruits and some faces called back to U23 Vietnam, coach Dinh Hong Vinh acknowledged the players' efforts.
"I appreciate the spirit and quick adaptation of the new faces in the squad. Although it is only the first time wearing the U23 Vietnam shirt, they have shown confidence, effort and desire to integrate into the general playing style.
Players like Tran Thanh Trung, Vadim Nguyen and some other young players have made a positive impression, showing that they have the potential to compete for a position in the official squad of U23 Vietnam," the strategist affirmed.
On the evening of October 14, Vietnam time, coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team left the UAE to return home, and are expected to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City in the early morning of October 15.
