“Although tomorrow’s match with Malaysia is the first leg, to reach the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup, this is an important match and perhaps the most difficult for us. The Vietnamese team will use all of the team’s inherent abilities to win tomorrow,” coach Kim Sang-sik shared at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) this morning.

According to Mr. Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnamese team has a good record in confrontations with Malaysia. The Korean coach expects the players to maintain positive energy in tomorrow's match at Bukit Jalil.

“Football is a difficult sport even when we know the opponent’s tactics. The result depends on our preparation and the Vietnamese team has been actively preparing in the past few days, I believe tomorrow’s match will be good,” said Mr. Kim Sang-sik.

Malaysia has changed a lot compared to the 2024 ASEAN Cup, from the coaching bench to the squad. The home team has a large and new squad of naturalized players, making it difficult for the Vietnamese team to assess the opponent's strength. The pressure at Bukit Jalil is also expected to be very high. However, coach Kim Sang-sik believes that instead of looking at the pressure aspect, Vietnam should focus on the positive aspects. Mr. Kim Sang-sik said:

“As a national team, every match is stressful. Therefore, we need to find positive points to focus on having a good performance. The Vietnamese team will have to try even harder.” Mr. Kim Sang-sik also recalled the victory of the ASEAN All-star team on May 28 against Manchester United (MU) that he led and said that football is unpredictable. Giving a more detailed assessment of Malaysia, coach Kim Sang-sik said:

“"I said before that this will be a difficult match for Vietnam. As far as I know, out of the 30 Malaysian players gathered this time, there are 18 players that we do not know yet. And in this match with Vietnam, there will also be about 5 new players participating in the competition. This has caused us difficulties in evaluating the opponent's players or analyzing tactics. However, the whole team is trying to prepare well, using all their abilities and solidarity to prepare for tomorrow's match."

Speaking at the press conference, midfielder Do Duy Manh assessed that the match with Malaysia would be very difficult. However, he and his teammates have actively prepared and are ready for the match.
