Coach Le Huynh Duc criticized the physical strength of Binh Duong players.

After losing to Viettel in round 12 of V-League 2023 yesterday, coach Le Huynh Duc said that all tactics are meaningless when Binh Duong players do not have physical strength.

Mr. Duc has led Binh Duong since May 11, replacing Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, with the hope of "salvaging" the club in crisis. Since the beginning of the season, the team from the land of Thu has not won a single match. However, there has been no breakthrough. After four consecutive draws against Khanh Hoa, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa and Da Nang, yesterday Mr. Duc's team lost 1-2 to Viettel at Hang Day Stadium. This defeat left Binh Duong stuck at the bottom of the table with only seven points after 12 rounds, equal to the bottom team Da Nang.

In the press conference after the match, Mr. Duc shook his head in disappointment: "I have nothing to say about this match. The team did not have the physical strength. Football players without physical strength cannot do anything, cannot play the right tactics."

In this match, Binh Duong conceded the first goal. After Truong Du Dat let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area, Nguyen Duc Chien successfully converted the penalty in the 24th minute, helping Viettel take the lead. In the last minute of the first half, Le Quang Hung took advantage of goalkeeper Pham Van Phong's mistake and scored a rebound to equalize 1-1 for Binh Duong. But the away team still had to leave empty-handed, when goalkeeper Tran Minh Toan missed the ball after Duc Chien's not-so-strong shot from outside the penalty area in the 64th minute.

"After the penalty goal, I tried to encourage the players. They played a little better. But then the physical problem said it all. Binh Duong had too many injured players who had just returned. I was new and couldn't do anything," Mr. Duc added. "We were in the bottom group but there were no changes in the players. Now we have another foreign player but he has paperwork issues and can't be used yet. We are dead right in his central defender position."

Before this season, Binh Duong spent a lot of money to buy the foreign duo who helped Hai Phong win the runner-up position in V-League 2022, Moses and Rimario. However, the first name was constantly injured, forcing the team to sign early. "Top scorer" Rimario lost his ability to score, only scoring four goals. Meanwhile, captain Nguyen Tien Linh also declined, only contributing one goal.

The only scorer for Binh Duong yesterday was Nguyen Quang Hung. The defender from Nam Dinh was a promising player, but was involved in a match-fixing scandal at the 2014 AFC Cup, so he was sentenced to prison and banned from playing for life. He was recently reduced his sentence by the VFF in March and asked to return to play for Binh Duong. Yesterday was the first time Quang Hung played in the V-League in nine years.

Asked about this case, Mr. Duc said: "Congratulations on Quang Hung's return. He plays aggressively and with determination. But unfortunately his teammates do not have the physical strength, cannot form a block, and cannot support him enough to make more of an impression."

The former national player then muttered, roughly saying that there was nothing more to say, a player without physical strength could not do anything, and then left.

The final match of the first leg on July 2, Binh Duong will host Nam Dinh.
