Malaysian coach proud of his students
"Before the match, people predicted that the Malaysian team would not be able to run more than the Vietnamese team. In fact, the players tried their best for the entire 97 minutes. Of course, we still have to improve physically," coach Peter Cklamovski shared after Malaysia's 4-0 victory over the visiting team Vietnam in the second match of Group F, the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on the evening of June 10.
The Malaysian team made history, as coach Cklamovski declared before the match, when they won against the Vietnamese team for the first time in 11 years.
Four goals from naturalized stars Figueiredo, Holgado, La'Vere Corbin Ong and Dion Cools helped Malaysia win big to take the top spot in Group F with 6 absolute points, a goal difference of +6 after 2 matches. Although there are still 4 matches left, this victory brings Malaysia very close to the threshold of Asian Cup 2027.

If they win the next 3 matches against Laos (2 matches) and Nepal, the Malaysian team only needs to lose by less than 4 goals in the final match against Vietnam (away) in March 2026 to have a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup.
"I am very proud of the players' efforts. We all dream of the 2027 Asian Cup and are committed to achieving our goal of participating in this tournament. From the first day of training, we showed that we are a hungry team, wanting to make our fans proud. They have proven the results of their training.
I would like to thank the fans who came to fill the empty seats and make the match special. It was a good message, I saw a lot of passion for Malaysian football, hopefully tonight's performance and what is being built will unite and inspire football here," said coach Cklamovski.
Malaysia 4-0 Vietnam: Completely 'frozen' by the naturalized stars
'I'm sick of complaints about naturalized players'
Before the match, Coach Cklamovski confirmed that he knew there was talk about Malaysia's massive naturalization of players. In this match, the Malaysian team took the field with 9 naturalized players as starters, then added 4 players with foreign blood on the bench.
"There have been obstacles for the Malaysian team. That is the complaint about us having many naturalized players. I am fed up with that and have said it many times in previous interviews. Hopefully today's result will unify all views," the Malaysian team's strategist emphasized.
"The Malaysian team has improved in terms of player quality, but we have to continue to try."
Coach Cklamovski also revealed the secret to victory: "In the first half, we created a number of chances and should have taken the lead from that moment. The most important factor in the second half was discipline. Thanks to that, we got the result. Malaysia had discipline in position, discipline in formation and distance between lines, both in attack and defense."
Malaysia will return to the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in October, with two matches against Laos at home and away. If they get 6 more full points, the "Tigers" will put a lot of pressure on the Vietnamese team.
