Appearing at the post-match press conference, coach Matthew Ross said: "I congratulate the Vietnamese team on their convincing victory. The turning point of the match was the red card. I am proud of the players, they were behind but still equalized 1-1, proving that the Nepalese players reacted well in difficult situations.
The Vietnamese team has equal quality from goalkeeper to striker, so victory is inevitable. However, we will prepare carefully for the next match in 4 days."
Welcoming Nepal, who were rated much lower, the Vietnamese team dominated the match and quickly showed their effectiveness. In the 10th minute, Tien Linh controlled the ball accurately and shot into the far corner, opening the score of the match.
In the following minutes, coach Kim Sang Sik's team created many opportunities but the strikers played unluckily. The surprise happened in the 16th minute when Shrestha jumped high to head the ball past Van Lam, equalizing 1-1 for Nepal. Conceding a quick goal, the Vietnamese team played deadlocked and finished rather hastily.
Nepal suffered a disadvantage when midfielder Laken Limbu received a red card at the end of the first half after a foul on Hai Long right outside the penalty area. Despite having one more player in the second half, it was not until the 67th minute that Vietnam relieved the pressure with Xuan Manh's goal to make it 2-1, after a tricky shot in the penalty area.
5 minutes later, Van Vi scored a close-range rebound after Hoang Duc's long-range shot was pushed out by goalkeeper Kiran, increasing the gap to 3-1 for the home team. Although the opponent was exhausted, the Vietnamese team could not take advantage to score another goal and 3-1 was the final result at Go Dau Stadium.
In another notable match, the Malaysian team easily won 3-0 against host Laos. After 3 matches in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, Malaysia leads with 9 points, followed by Vietnam (6 points), Laos (3 points) and Nepal (0 points).
