After the match, De Bruyne took his wife Michele Lacroix and their three children around the stadium to thank Man City fans for their love for the player.
In the stands, fans sang songs dedicated to the 33-year-old midfielder, making him choke up. A video of former Man City players sending their deep thanks to De Bruyne was also shown on the big screen, making coach Pep Guardiola unable to hold back his emotions and burst into tears.
Finally, De Bruyne stepped onto the stage and gave an emotional speech: "Manchester is home, the place where my child was born. I have been here for more than 10 years, it has been a wonderful time with admirable people. We have won everything together, together we have made the team stronger.
I hope you still have the same love for Man City as you did when I first joined the club. We had 6 great parades and they are an unforgettable part of my memories. It was an honor to experience everything with this club," De Bruyne said in a tearful farewell ceremony.
