According to The Times, the initial contract between SvFF and coach Potter will be short-term until March 2026, focusing on the goal of bringing the team to the 2026 World Cup finals through the play-off round.
If he does well, the English coach will be extended. The move comes just days after SvFF decided to fire coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, following a 0-1 home defeat to Kosovo.
This result caused the Swedish team to sink to the bottom of Group B of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with only 1 point after 4 matches, completely losing hope of getting a ticket straight to the final round.
The appointment of Graham Potter, who has a deep connection with Swedish football, is considered a lifeline for SvFF. The 50-year-old coach led Östersunds FK from 2011 to 2018, creating a miracle by helping the club rise from the Swedish Fourth Division to the top flight, even taking the team to the knockout round of the 2017/18 Europa League.
Two of Potter's three children were also born in Sweden during this period. After leaving Östersund, he continued his career in England with Swansea City, Brighton, Chelsea and most recently West Ham.
