Coach Ruben Amorim hints at risk of being fired by Man Utd

Man Utd have won a place in the Europa League final but could not hide a bad season when the "Red Devils" lost 0-2 to West Ham right at home at Old Trafford in round 36 of the Premier League on the evening of May 11.

The result leaves Ruben Amorim's side 16th in the Premier League. United are now winless in seven Premier League games, their worst run since November 1992, and have lost nine games at Old Trafford this season, something they have not done since 1963.

The defeat against West Ham was the 17th defeat of the season, thereby Man Utd set a record for the most defeats since they were relegated in 1974. This has caused the "hot seat" of coach Amorim to shake violently and the prospect of being fired is very likely to happen if the "Red Devils" fail in the upcoming Europa League final.

"We all have to think seriously about many things. Everyone is thinking about the Europa League final but that is not the main issue. We have bigger things to think about.

I'm talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that. This is a decisive moment in the history of the club.

"Man Utd need to be really strong this summer and be brave because we will not have another season like this. If we start like this, if the feeling is still there, we should give space to others," Amorim said.

Remarkably, Man Utd played so badly that coach Amorim even said that qualifying for the Champions League could be a problem.

"To be honest, I'm not worried about the Europa League final. That's the smallest problem in our club. Man Utd need to change something deeper than this.

We are proving that at the end of this season, playing in the Premier League and the Champions League is the best thing for us, so we need to know that.

I'm not worried about the final. They will be focused and I don't know what's best, whether to play the Champions League or not. So think about the upcoming match against Chelsea to improve many things," the Portuguese strategist concluded.

Man Utd's next match is away to Chelsea on May 17 before entering the Europa League final against Tottenham on May 21.
