According to Chosun Biz (Korea), the Chinese Football Association is contacting coach Shin Tae Yong to invite him to become head coach. Recently, the CFA fired coach Branko Ivankovic after the national team was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

However, the Korean coach's representative confirmed that this information was incorrect. He said: "Contrary to media reports, we have never received any offer or contract from the Chinese Football Association."
In addition, the representative also said that the former coach of the Indonesian national team is busy with many roles in his home country. He added: "Mr. Shin Tae Yong is currently involved in many activities, including the role of Vice President at the Korea Football Association (KFA) and the position of General Director at Seongnam FC Club."
However, coach Shin Tae Yong did not completely reject the possibility of leading the Chinese national team if an official offer was made. "There needs to be a specific invitation from the Chinese Football Association for the two sides to start negotiations. However, up to now, we have not received any offer," said coach Shin's representative.

Besides Shin Tae Yong, two other candidates mentioned for the position of coach of the Chinese national team are Zheng Zhi and Gao Hongbo.
Coach Zheng Zhi is currently the head coach of the Chinese U21 team and was an assistant coach of the national team. Meanwhile, Gao Hongbo is a former head coach of the Chinese national team and has a lot of experience leading the team in previous stages.
According to Sohu newspaper, CFA wants to urgently find a new coach for the Chinese team in the context that in July, they will participate in the East Asian Cup.
