Highlights of England's easy win over Serbia
Facing Serbia in Group C of Euro 2024, England started impressively and took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a powerful header from midfielder Jude Bellingham.
For the rest of the match, coach Gareth Southgate's players retreated deep and did not create many situations to threaten Serbia's goal. The defensive counter-attacking style of both sides did not bring any more goals to the match.
"I'm glad we showed our ability in another aspect, England were resilient to protect their penalty area because I think only by coordinating defense can the players build a united block, raising the spirit of the whole team.
"Our team was exhausted and that's no surprise because a lot of players played the full 90 minutes. I think we can play more effectively in the way we played in the first half, which will help us as well," said coach Gareth Southgate.
The England head coach added that the "Three Lions" are still a team in transition: "I am still looking for the thread that binds the whole squad to overcome all the challenges ahead.
There is a lot of hard work ahead. We are lacking certain things and have to find the best possible solutions. There are many complex issues to face, but the spirit of the team is there to win. I believe my team will grow from there," said Southgate.
Midfielder Bellingham had a great game but was unhappy with England's second-half performance. The Real Madrid star believes the quality of their attack needs to improve, while England have learned a lot from a difficult game against Serbia.
England will face Denmark on 20 June before taking on Slovenia in their final group game on 26 June.
