Coach Troussier celebrates with his students
Compared to the victory over Hong Kong (China), the performance of the Vietnamese team against Syria was considered convincing and satisfying. Although there was only one goal scored by Pham Tuan Hai in the second half, the national team demonstrated a tight defense and smooth attack.
Evaluating the Vietnamese players, Coach Troussier said: "Today, the team kept a clean sheet and scored the decisive goal from an open ball development situation. I am very satisfied because the team just won and achieved the goal of how to win. The players all worked hard and made efforts to meet the requirements."
In the convincing victory over the Syrian team, coach Troussier sent two young talents Nguyen Thai Son and Phan Tuan Tai onto the field from the start and this national U23 duo performed quite well, completing their assigned roles excellently.
The 68-year-old French strategist also confessed that he felt a bit of pressure before the match with the Syrian team. "Sometimes the team still makes mistakes because we haven't had much time to work together. I always ask the players to follow the coaching staff's intentions and hope that the whole team will complete the task well. Two clean sheet wins and two goals from open play are the result of the recent training sessions" - Coach Troussier commented.
The Vietnamese team's defense played better than in the previous match.
In addition, coach Troussier also said that the Vietnamese team needs more time to absorb his football philosophy before participating in the official match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"I hope the players will play regularly in the V-League and have 4 or 5 matches before entering the World Cup qualifiers. In the coming time, I will monitor the players more, establish good relationships with the clubs to select the best players" - the head coach of the Vietnam team added.
Receiving talents who are wearing the national team jersey for the first time this time, Mr. Troussier affirmed that he wants to have more new players. "In general, the new players that I brought into the squad this time all completed their tasks well, showing great effort. The playing style relies on the collective but also requires good individuals, so not only Tuan Hai but also the players who were put on the field in the second half all performed well."
Talking about his student Van Toan, the coach nicknamed "white wizard" said: "The whole team is eager but always shows professionalism and initiative in training sessions and other activities. He meets the requirements when playing on both sides of the wing corridor in this match. Van Toan's experience and spirit will help him become an important factor of the Vietnam team in the future."
