“We always enter the game with the highest spirit. The fact that we have not won against Vietnam for more than 10 years is not something that scares us, but a challenge to overcome. We want to make history, and that is the opportunity ahead. We will try,” coach Peter Cklamovski said at a press conference before the match with the Vietnamese team.
Over the past decade, the Malaysian team has never won against the Vietnamese team in a direct confrontation. Therefore, playing at home, with great support from a group of naturalized players, the "Golden Tigers" want to "break the curse" to make history, which is understandable.
Coach Peter Cklamovski and his team gathered on May 19, 10 days earlier than the Vietnamese team. They had 2 friendly matches with Cape Verde to assemble the squad and tactics. Coach Peter Cklamovski was quite satisfied with the performance of his players and looked forward to the official match with the Vietnamese team.

“We have prepared very well for tomorrow’s important match and are very excited to take to the field and make the Malaysian fans proud. I would like to stress that I am very pleased with the spirit and dedication of the players as well as the coaching staff. Despite the noise and speculation on social media, the important thing is that we still have a very remarkable match ahead. I am very impressed with the players and look forward to seeing them show their character,” continued coach Peter Cklamovski.
“We have gone through the preparation stages from physical, tactical, to friendly matches. Physically, the players have improved, especially when many players have just gone through the holidays. They are back in good shape thanks to personal discipline. The medical team and performance experts have also contributed greatly. We are building a team that is aiming for world class. There is still a lot of work to do, but at this point, I am really satisfied,” he concluded.
Malaysia played two friendly matches with Cape Verde in preparation for the match with Vietnam. In the first match on May 29, Malaysia drew 1-1 with their opponent and lost 0-3 in the friendly match on June 3. According to coach Peter Cklamovski, the new players have integrated well, the training atmosphere is positive, and their physical fitness index has continuously improved.
