"We are very excited about the match against the Vietnamese women's team in the semi-finals. This is one of the strongest teams in the tournament, led by a talented coach," head coach Joseph Palatsides shared at a press conference held at noon on August 15.
At 8:00 p.m. on August 16 at Lach Tray Stadium, U23 Australia and the Vietnamese women's team will compete in the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship.
In the group stage, U23 Australia lost 1-2 to Myanmar, but then won 1-0 against defending champion Philippines before "destroying" Timor Leste with a score of 9-0 to win second place in Group B. It is not too much to say that U23 Australia is also a candidate for the championship this year.
"My players improve with each match. They have good receptiveness and a strong desire to win," said the Australian U23 coach.
On the Vietnamese women's team side, head coach Mai Duc Chung expressed a certain respect when commenting on the opponent.
"The Vietnamese women's team and the Australian U23 team are two teams with equal strength. The Australian U23 team has a very young squad and they are also preparing well for the national team. We hope to play well against the Australian U23 team. Hopefully fans will come to the stadium to support the Vietnamese women's team," said Mr. Mai Duc Chung.
The strategist continued: "Playing at home is a big advantage for the Vietnamese women's team. We also have one more day off, and our opponents also have to travel from Phu Tho . However, that is only a theoretical advantage, because the Australian U23 players are young, strong and adapt very quickly.
It was unfortunate that they lost to Myanmar in the first match, but they played well in the following matches and won the right to enter the semi-finals. This will be a very difficult opponent, but the Vietnamese women's team has prepared carefully."
