• Free screening for ptosis and strabismus for 180 children in Ca Mau province
  • Training on early detection of ptosis and strabismus in children
  • Support 60 children to have surgery for ptosis and strabismus

The program is part of the project “Comprehensive approach to vision improvement” funded by the Dutch Eye Care Foundation (ECF). This activity aims to help children, especially those in remote and disadvantaged areas, access quality medical services, promptly intervene in eye diseases, and avoid the risk of long-term effects on vision.

Doctors examine, consult with experts, and prepare for the upcoming free eye surgery.

The consultation session was attended by ophthalmology experts from the Department of Ophthalmology Refractive Surgery - Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology - University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, Eye Hospital and Children's Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The surgeries are scheduled to take place from June 13-15.

Previously, from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the Medical Centers of districts and cities in the province coordinated with schools to organize screening for refractive errors, early detection of cases with signs of ptosis and strabismus. The list of children after screening was transferred to the Provincial Eye and Dermatology Hospital for further evaluation and surgery indication.

The project also requires that surgeries be performed with a high sense of responsibility, ensuring professional quality and absolute safety for children. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen health education and communication in the community, especially raising awareness about prevention, detection and early treatment of eye diseases in children.

The 2025 program continues the success of the 2024 surgery, continuing to bring hope and light to many children in Ca Mau, contributing to improving the quality of life and comprehensive development opportunities for children in the province.
