One of the journalists that I admire the most is Ms. Pham Ngoc Hien. Ms. Hien was recruited by Ca Mau Radio and Television Station to work as a reporter for the Broadcasting Department in 2007. She is a talented writer, with a unique writing style, a serious working spirit and is the first person of Ca Mau Radio and Television Station after more than 30 years of establishment to have a radio work that won the Gold Award at the National Radio Festival, that is the work "The hidden corner of life".
I looked for her work. Knowing how Hien devoted herself to her profession by being willing to sleep all night in the park to wait for the “street life” characters, then how to use background sound effectively, to exploiting the children’s thoughts and feelings… I learned how to recreate the scene in the listener’s mind with sound.
Journalist Ngoc Hien shared: “Throughout my career, I have always strived to work with all my heart and responsibility, considering my profession a noble mission. After 18 years of dedication to the PT-TH career in Ca Mau, although my own capacity is still limited, I am always aware that journalism is not only about conveying information but also spreading life values.”
Journalist Pham Ngoc Hien pays attention to every detail of the work.
Perhaps from that concept, she speaks in a very emotional way as a journalist, behind each report always conveys many humane messages. Learning from her, I always want to bring to listeners content and information worth listening to, thinking about and contemplating.
One of my newspaper colleagues at the same time was journalist Tran Truc Linh. Originally a bachelor of tourism, Truc Linh came to journalism by chance, and from that chance, Truc Linh has been attached to the profession for 13 years. Truc Linh and I entered the profession at the same time, so it was easy to bond and understand each other. From the early days, we both practiced writing news, then practicing writing reports with clumsy sentences, and were reminded and instructed by Ms. Ngoc Diem (Head of the Radio Department at that time). The 6-month probationary period was really stressful for us, as previously, 4 people had applied for probation but were not accepted. To overcome the challenge, both of us threw ourselves into studying, practicing and received a lot of support from editors and reporters. Each person has their own strengths, but I also admire Truc Linh for her hard-working spirit as a journalist, identifying topics to do very quickly and always trying to complete them as best as possible. I really appreciate what Truc Linh shared, that audio journalism has a very special meaning, each work is not only news, a reflection... but also the breath of life recreated through sounds, noises, voices..., using sound so that listeners can imagine a realistic picture of life.
Along with working in audio journalism, Truc Linh and I have been assigned to work as visual reporters for more than 2 years now. Although the profession is not entirely new, working in visual journalism still requires a lot of learning, from how to skillfully use some visual journalism software, how to record and deliver character speeches to create the best images, to how to write commentary based on images captured during the work process... Therefore, in addition to our own efforts, we need support from video reporters.
Journalist Tran Truc Linh is close to local people.
Many cameramen in Ca Mau Radio and Television Station (now Ca Mau Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) came from other majors, but when they became journalists, they were very passionate. Journalist Huynh Thanh Huy is one of those people. Huy shared that, at first, when it came to journalism, he was like an "outsider", because he was a bachelor of electronics, recruited by Minh Hai Radio and Television Station in July 1993, and went through many positions: radio technician, graphic technician, image editing technician... in general, only related to technology.
Journalist Huynh Thanh Huy is very careful when working, from shooting angle to image selection.
However, during his work, through continuous learning and practicing his skills, he gradually formed and developed a passion for journalism. To have beautiful footage and scenes, Mr. Huy has never been afraid of difficulties. He is meticulous and careful in choosing the shooting angle and frame. The images he chooses to film are very carefully and meticulously in the rough editing stage to convey the most message of the work that he and the editor work together to create. Every time he works, he always carefully asks me about the content that needs to be expressed, or if he has any ideas, just discuss them... Mr. Huy's gentleness and simplicity always create trust and confidence when working together.
For me, the wonderful thing about journalism is that the longer I stay with it and the more I travel, the more passionate I become and the more I want to devote myself. The field of audio and visual journalism remains attractive, so that my colleagues and I can continue to strive and create many valuable works to serve the audience./.
