According to information from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, to prevent people from going hungry, since the beginning of the year, the total amount of rice that the Government, ministries, branches and localities have supported people is more than 17.7 thousand tons of rice. Specifically, 10.4 thousand tons of rice were supported for famine relief on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin for 103.7 thousand households with 693.4 thousand people. At the same time, the Government also supported more than 2.3 thousand tons of rice for famine relief in the 2024 crop year for more than 33 thousand households with 155.7 thousand people.
This is one of the information from the Socio-Economic Situation Report for the First Quarter of 2024 just announced by the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Planning and Investment ).
The report also stated that as of March 19, 2024, the amount of support for social protection beneficiaries under Decree No. 20/2021/ND-CP dated March 15, 2021 was VND 8.1 trillion. Of which, poor and near-poor households were supported with more than VND 2.4 trillion; people with meritorious services and relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution were VND 9.2 trillion. Unscheduled and unusual support arising locally was nearly VND 26.8 billion.
The General Statistics Office also said that people's living conditions in the first quarter of this year have improved. According to preliminary results from the 2024 Population Living Standards Survey, the average income per capita in the first quarter of 2024 is estimated at 5.2 million VND/month, an increase of about 8% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2023.
