In the 2023 Vietnamese Lotus painting collection, there are many works that were created in 2015 but were only introduced this year.
Regarding the solo exhibition Sen Viet 2023 , artist Dang Phuong Viet said: "Everyone wants to paint beautifully, but it is very difficult to paint beautifully and impressively. Especially, it is easy to paint one or two beautiful paintings, but when choosing to paint lotus as an entire artistic path, it is no longer simple. You have to gather enough fate to have a beautiful work."
Dang Phuong Viet is famous for his lotus paintings. His lotus paintings really impress viewers with his skillful oil and lacquer painting techniques as well as his expressive color gradation. From the traditional concept of the lotus as a symbol of beauty, purity and rebirth, the artist has given the flower a modern look. He uses a wide spectrum of colors to create his works – from acid green to strange purple pink or red of a hot engine.
Painter Dang Phuong Viet was born in 1972 in Hanoi. He graduated with honors from Hanoi University of Fine Arts.
"This is also the meaning of my name for this exhibition, Sen Viet 2023 , which means marking the end of a period, just like the birth of a child. Once your child is born, how he grows up and matures is a story for later," he said.
Artist Dang Phuong Viet was born in 1972 in Hanoi. He graduated with honors from the Hanoi University of Fine Arts. After graduating, the artist devoted himself to his artistic work and won many awards at home and abroad: awards from the Hanoi Fine Arts Association, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, the ASEAN Fine Arts Award, etc.
Dang Phuong Viet's works are mainly made in oil and lacquer with the language of modern realism; displayed in many galleries and present in the collections of domestic and foreign collectors.
For Dang Phuong Viet, painting lotus is not simply seeing a beautiful lotus flower in a pond, lake, or marsh and then creating a picture.
Dang Phuong Viet's works are mainly made in oil and lacquer with the language of modern realism.
Although Dang Phuong Viet’s choice of colors is challenging, he has managed to combine them into extremely brilliant and harmonious paintings. At the same time, freeing the eyes and mind from the realistic beauty of lotus flowers and lotus ponds, Dang Phuong Viet’s lotus paintings are full of imaginative decorative colors, allowing for free flowing and free-flowing lines, as well as strong and brilliant color blocks.
Dang Phuong Viet is no longer constrained by "seeing", but is completely free in "feeling". Therefore, from a small lotus pond, he has reached out to a sea of lotus with countless waves of emotions, colors, shades and compositions - a rich and endless variation. That is very difficult in painting and not every artist can achieve it.
