(NADS) - On the afternoon of May 24, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province decided to stop all activities of the "Vietnam Sea and Island Festival - Vung Tau City 2024" from 5:00 p.m. the same day. The event, organized by the Phan Trong Binh People's Armed Forces Hero Social Work Fund, is expected to last from May 23 to May 26 with many diverse activities.
This decision was made after the Phan Trong Binh Foundation sent a document requesting to stop organizing a number of activities, including the performing arts program "Aspirational Journey" scheduled to take place on the night of May 25. According to the fund representative, despite efforts to carry out most of the work, partners and service providers could not continue to accompany due to time constraints and the fund could not fully complete the contents to ensure compliance with the approved plan and goals.
The main activities of the festival include a food fair, a yoga performance festival, a mobile propaganda convoy about Vietnam's seas and islands, and a Vietnamese ao dai parade. Of these, only the yoga performance festival has been completed, while the food fair and ao dai parade are taking place. However, the remaining events, especially the art performance "Aspirational Journey" with the participation of many famous artists, have been canceled.
The People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has directed the Phan Trong Binh Fund to collect all items and hand over the site to Vung Tau City before noon on May 26, and to be responsible for paying all costs of the event. The People's Committee of Vung Tau City will coordinate with the provincial police to supervise the cleanup and handle any intentional delays.
Organizing the first festival in Vung Tau encountered many difficulties because the Phan Trong Binh Foundation did not coordinate well with the local government. The Foundation did not provide enough necessary information such as the decision to establish the Organizing Committee, detailed script, booth layout, security plan, guest list, and solutions for wastewater treatment and environmental sanitation.
In addition, the food fair area also caused much frustration with its shabby condition, many stalls selling street food, and sidewalk food, which were not worthy of the scale of a large cultural and tourism event. Olabay Vietnam Joint Stock Company, the organizer of the art program "Aspirational Journey", had to stop all organization work because the fund could not guarantee financial capacity and contractual commitments.
The Vietnam Sea and Island Festival - Vung Tau City 2024 did not achieve the expected goal, causing great disappointment to the people and tourists. Events such as the food fair were assessed as monotonous, mainly fast food, lacking regional specialties, causing the festival to lose its initial appeal.
In this situation, the Department of Tourism of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee approve the suspension of all festival activities from 5:00 p.m. on May 24 and widely announce to tourists and residents. This is a great lesson for organizations and individuals when organizing large-scale cultural events, they need to have careful preparation and close coordination with local agencies to ensure success.
