“We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country, never become slaves. Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” - these words made a deep impression on me because they expressed President Ho Chi Minh ’s incomparable determination to liberate the nation, bringing independence and freedom to Vietnam and the important thing is that President Ho Chi Minh did exactly what he said.

These are the touching words shared by Thai scholar Songrit Pongern in a conversation with a VNA reporter in Bangkok when talking about President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of his birth (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025).
Born and raised in Udon Thani, one of the northeastern localities of Thailand, which was marked by President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities under the name Thau Chin in the period of 1928-1929, scholar Songrit said that he had heard stories about Uncle Ho since he was still in school, when the resistance war in Vietnam was still in its fiercest stage. This was what prompted him to learn and research more deeply about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh when he entered Thammasat University.

According to Thai scholars, President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary life and contributions to Vietnam have great value and are very important to the existence of Vietnam today, especially his ideological legacy, which emphasizes that the development of socialism must make the people rich, the country strong, the people peaceful and happy, the material and spiritual life improved, the people free, and benefit from the development of science and technology.
He said that Ho Chi Minh's ideology is still the foundation and guiding light for the Communist Party of Vietnam in formulating policies, issuing guidelines and implementing plans to develop the country towards the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.
Not only for Vietnam, scholar Songrit also affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh also made meaningful contributions to the revolutionary cause in the world. He is the embodiment of patriotism and revolutionary heroism because he devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation. President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary career has become a symbol that arouses the people's aspirations and beliefs in the struggle for independence, freedom, peace, democracy and social progress.
Thai scholars commented that President Ho Chi Minh's actions made the world aware of "the virtues and qualities of a true revolutionary activist", including diligence, thrift, integrity, wholehearted service to the country and people, and putting the country's interests above all else.
Those revolutionary qualities are clearly shown in the personality of President Ho Chi Minh with a simple, humble lifestyle, eager to learn, always listening to opinions and being close to the people, doing everything for the benefit of the people, always being a devoted servant of the people, not considering himself the master of the people.
He believes that these revolutionary qualities are valuable assets and torches that light the way for Vietnam's development to achieve even greater achievements.
Besides, scholar Songrit also believes that today's generations of students should actively learn about the life and career of Uncle Ho, because he is a symbol of patriotism and a true hero of the nation.
