Also attending the reception of the Ambassador were Rector Professor Eva Schulev-Steindl and Vice Rector Associate Professor Doris Damyanovic.
On behalf of the school's Board of Directors, Ms. Schulev-Steindl congratulated Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang on his appointment as Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria and expressed her honor to welcome the Ambassador to the school.
Ms. Schulev-Steindl and her colleagues introduced the school's operating model and development strategy. BOKU was founded in 1872, currently has more than 10,000 students, and is currently ranked 25th among the world's leading universities in agriculture and forestry.
The main research and teaching areas of the school include: Ecosystem and biodiversity management, agriculture and food production, renewable resources and technology, biotechnology, landscape, water resources management, living space and infrastructure and resources and social dynamics. The school offers a wide range of bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in both German and English.
The close and effective partnership between BOKU and Vietnam began in 2000. BOKU's Vietnamese partners are Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and a number of other research and training institutions. Many Vietnamese students and lecturers have studied and researched at BOKU.
Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang highly appreciated the achievements of the school in the development journey of over 150 years as well as the school's contributions to the Vietnam-Austria educational and scientific research cooperation over the past 25 years.
The Ambassador emphasized that the school's strong training and research fields based on technology and innovation are very suitable for Vietnam's needs to promote circular, multi-value, sustainable, and smart agriculture based on science, technology, and digital transformation.
This is a high priority of the Strategy for Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, and Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.
BOKU's Board of Directors agreed to continue to cooperate and support more effectively and substantially with Vietnamese partners, increase promotion, provide scholarships, and recruit more Vietnamese students to study in Austria in German and English. They hope to expand their search for partners in the Mekong Delta region to train and research on water resource management, climate change response, and agricultural and aquatic product production.
