World Heritage Center continues to accompany and support Hanoi in preserving the relics of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa

On the afternoon of May 20, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic site, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh received Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo - Director of the World Heritage Center of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Speaking here, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh thanked Director of UNESCO World Heritage Center Lazare Eloundou Assomo and UNESCO's specialized agencies for always accompanying and devoting much enthusiasm to the conservation and promotion of heritage in Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular.

Mr. Tran Sy Thanh hopes that UNESCO, the World Heritage Center, especially the Director of the World Heritage Center, will continue to accompany, guide and support Hanoi Capital in recreating Kinh Thien Palace and relics in Thang Long Imperial Citadel, in the common effort to preserve and promote world heritages in Hanoi Capital and Vietnam.

Affirming that this is an urgent and meaningful wish of the people of Hanoi and Vietnam, he also requested UNESCO to continue to support and advise so that the dossier on restoring Kinh Thien Palace and the main space of Kinh Thien Palace of the world heritage site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel will be approved by UNESCO as soon as possible.

The Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee said that recreating the thousands-year-old Hoang Dao axis and rebuilding Kinh Thien Palace - where people across the country can perform traditional rituals, reenact the history of the nation, arouse the power of thousands of years of convergence and unite the community in the new era of the nation, is also an important task for Vietnam.

Referring to the Co Loa relic site, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh said that Hanoi is preparing a dossier to register the list of world cultural heritage nominations to submit to the UNESCO World Heritage Center and asked Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo to pay attention and support the necessary procedures.

Expressing support for the wishes of Hanoi city leaders, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo affirmed that UNESCO will closely coordinate, accompany, support and provide necessary professional advice in the work of preserving and promoting world heritages.

Appreciating Hanoi's commitment to the efforts to preserve and restore the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center Lazare Eloundou Assomo emphasized that this project is not only important for the capital city of Hanoi and Vietnam, but also has significance for humanity.

The Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center also said that the organization is ready to support Vietnam and Hanoi in preserving the Co Loa relic site, and at the same time proposes to develop a set of regulations for managing the Co Loa relic site with the participation of relevant parties, and promptly assess the tourism pressure on this heritage site to have appropriate conservation solutions.

Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo also thanked the Hanoi Capital government for its support to UNESCO agencies in recent times.

On this occasion, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo respectfully invited the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee to visit the headquarters of the World Heritage Center in Paris (France). Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that he will arrange the visit at a suitable time.
