Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thanh Huyen, Director of the Center for Medicinal Resources, Institute of Medicinal Materials, said that the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 was launched by the United Nations with the theme "Living in harmony with nature and sustainable development", emphasizing the need to implement in parallel the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to the organic relationship between "Living in harmony with nature" and the goal of comprehensive and sustainable development for all countries and communities in the world .
The event was organized by the Institute of Medicinal Materials with practical activities to promote love of nature and raise awareness of environmental protection among the young generation such as: Visiting the medicinal materials museum; experiencing medicinal plant classification, medicinal plant conservation, sample analysis, making specimens/specimens, looking up information,...

The Museum of Medicinal Materials currently preserves more than 4,000 medicinal material samples and a collection of 300 living medicinal plants. It also displays many traditional medical instruments and images of famous doctors, contributing to the preservation of knowledge of Vietnamese medicinal plants. This is a vivideducational address for the community about the value of Vietnamese medicinal plants in health care.
The event attracted nearly 100 young people from Hanoi -Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Tran Duy Hung Secondary School and several other schools. In particular, the 2025 International Biology Olympiad delegation led by Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Doan Long and 4 excellent students came to study and experience.
Here, students directly participate in activities such as learning about medicinal plants and herbs used by ethnic groups in Vietnam; identifying medicinal plants by morphology, practicing analyzing medicinal plant samples, looking up scientific information and making specimen slides. These practical experiences not only contribute to improving specialized biological skills but also help the talented generation of students to more deeply perceive the connection between scientific research and biodiversity conservation in life.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thanh Huyen said that to preserve biodiversity sustainably, the participation of the young generation is indispensable. In recent years, the Institute of Medicinal Materials has had many activities to attract young people to participate in experiential and learning activities for young people, aiming to arouse love for science and awareness of environmental protection.
Through hands-on activities, students not only gain access to scientific knowledge but also develop a love and responsibility for nature. This is the way to sow the seeds of conservation awareness in the minds of future generations.
