The contest attracted the participation of more than 500 contestants, nearly 200 teachers from 30 countries and territories around the world . The Vietnamese team has 32 contestants.
Candidates compete in two categories: Key Stage II (grades 5-6) and Key Stage III (grades 7-8). Each student participates in two mandatory rounds: an individual round and a team round. The exam questions are selected from proposals submitted by expert panels from participating countries.

The individual round consists of two parts: EMIC with a test of 15 questions, a maximum total of 150 points, and a test time of 90 minutes; IWYMIC with a test of 15 questions, a maximum total of 120 points, and a test time of 120 minutes.
The team round has 4 contestants in a team solving 10 problems in 70 minutes, in the form of close group coordination. The maximum total score is 400 points.
Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, said that the International Mathematics Competition is not only a playground for students to demonstrate their talents, abilities and passion for mathematics, but also an opportunity to exchange, learn, broaden their horizons and foster international friendships. “I hope that students will compete with a spirit of honesty, solidarity and creativity; learn from each other and spread their passion for mathematics,” she said.
During the competition, delegations of candidates and teachers will visit famous tourist attractions in the city and participate in group activities. This is an opportunity for Da Nang and Vietnam in general to promote its image to international friends.
