Artisan Tran Thanh Tung said that making lanterns is both easy and difficult, requiring meticulousness and dexterity. To complete a lantern, it goes through many stages, from whittling bamboo strips to assembling the frame, gluing paper and painting decorations.

The decisive factor that makes each lantern unique is the way the craftsman shapes and cuts and pastes the decorative motifs on the lantern to make it eye-catching and attractive.

From bamboo strips, depending on the arrangement, different lantern shapes will be created. When decorating, you must be skillful to keep the paper straight and not torn. Because it is completely handmade, the lanterns need to be carefully polished, bent, and adjusted to every detail.

“I am the third generation in my family to make traditional lanterns without batteries or pleasant music, but the handmade lanterns still have their own appeal. For me, sticking with the craft of making cellophane lanterns not only preserves the traditional cultural beauty of the nation, but also brings joy to children every Mid-Autumn Festival,” artisan Tran Thanh Tung shared.

Students enthusiastically participated in making traditional lanterns with the support and guidance of teachers and artisans. "This is my first time making a lantern so I don't know how to do it. It looks easy but in fact it takes a lot of effort to make a beautiful lantern. When I finish making the lantern, I will keep it as a souvenir," said Nguyen Ba Huu Minh, class 6A1, Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School (Quang Ngai City).

"Mid-Autumn Festival will become more meaningful when children make lanterns by themselves. Through this activity, children can develop their creativity, color coordination, perseverance and manual dexterity. At the same time, it helps children learn and explore the beauty of traditional culture, and enjoy a happy Mid-Autumn Festival," said Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of Quang Ngai Provincial Museum.
