Recently, the water supply for the Cu Elang commune's domestic water supply system has occasionally appeared cloudy brown with sediment.

This situation has caused many residents of Ea Ô commune (formerly Cư Elang and Ea Ô communes in Ea Kar district) who use water from the project to be very worried about the water quality.

Ms. Ha Thi Bang's family (of the Thai ethnic group) is one of many households in Van Kieu village that use water from the aforementioned water treatment plant. Ms. Bang said that her family has been using tap water since 2020. Normally, she fills her 1,000-liter water tank with tap water and uses it gradually. However, in recent months, the tap water has occasionally turned a cloudy brown color, and upon inspection, she found a lot of sediment at the bottom of the tank. She has to open the tap, drain all the cloudy water, clean the tank, and then pump water up for use, which is very inconvenient.

Similarly, Mr. Ha Viet Bay's family (in Hamlet 2) also faced the same situation. Mr. Bay said that his family has five members. Previously, his family used both well water and tap water from the water supply system, but switched entirely to tap water at the beginning of 2023. Recently, the tap water occasionally turns a cloudy brown color when poured into a basin, and after a while, a lot of mud settles at the bottom. Each time this happens, Mr. Bay has to let the water run for many hours until it becomes clear again before he can use it again. "Worried that the water quality might not be guaranteed and could affect our health, I had to buy two additional filters to attach before the pipes leading to the water filter and washing machine. Sometimes when I turn on the tap, I even see a lot of white foam floating on the water," Mr. Bay said.

According to our investigation, not only the two households mentioned above, but also many other households in villages such as Village 1, Village 2, Village 6B, Village 6E, Ea Rot hamlet, Van Kieu hamlet, etc., who use water from the project, are experiencing the same problem.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Pham Ngoc Binh, Director of the Provincial Center for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, said that the cloudy and sediment-laden water from the facility, as reported by residents, could be due to a broken pipeline.

Recently, the construction unit working on the Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot expressway, specifically the section passing through Ea O commune (Km73+262.7), has repeatedly broken pipelines with numerous specialized vehicles working day and night. In some instances, the construction unit broke the pipe but failed to notify the center promptly for repairs, resulting in soil spilling into the broken pipe area.

There have also been cases where people farming accidentally cracked or broke pipelines, leading to similar situations. From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the center has detected and handled 27 pipeline rupture incidents, mainly occurring in highway construction areas.

Workers from the Provincial Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Center are repairing a ruptured D168 pipeline at the intersection of the access road to the highway in Hamlet 6B, Ea Ô Commune.

Regarding quality, Mr. Binh affirmed that the water at the facility is treated in accordance with the national standards for clean water for domestic use issued by the Ministry of Health . Every six months, an independent water quality measurement unit will take water samples at the facility for testing as required. The most recent test, conducted at the end of 2024, showed that all water samples met the national standards.

Following feedback from residents, the center will send workers to inspect and promptly rectify any problems, ensuring a stable and continuous water supply for the people. At the same time, the highway construction unit is requested to immediately notify the center if any pipelines are broken during construction so that the water supply can be stopped and repairs can be carried out promptly…

It is known that the water supply project for Cu Elang commune was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 1445/QD-UBND, dated July 1, 2014. The project was invested in by the People's Committee of Ea Kar district (formerly), with a total investment of over 26.8 billion VND. Construction began in September 2014 and was completed in November 2016. The project was handed over to the Provincial Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Center for management, operation, and exploitation in October 2017. The Center is currently supplying water to 1,688 households in Ea O commune.
