An electric-assist bicycle (called "pedelec" in English) is a type of bicycle that is designed exactly like a regular bicycle, but is equipped with an electric motor and battery to help the cyclist feel less tired. The motor and battery of the bicycle are often hidden in the axle, frame, saddle neck... so many people mistakenly think it is just a normal bicycle.

Currently, there are many types of electric-assisted vehicles on the market, of which Japanese domestic electric-assisted vehicles (from brands such as Panasonic, Maruishi, Bridgestone...) are the most popular. In addition, brands such as Giant, Xiaomi, ADO, Himo... and especially Vinfast from Vietnam are also chosen by many people. European electric-assisted bicycle brands also exist, but there are very few distributors.
Compared with electric motorbikes and pure electric bicycles, electric assist bicycles have the following advantages:
The first is the compact, flexible design. An electric bicycle usually weighs less than 25kg, so it is very flexible when controlling. At the same time, manufacturers also offer a variety of designs: city bikes, folding bikes, touring bikes, ... and especially mini electric bicycles that are very suitable for women.

Second is the flexible travel mode: The rider can choose the level of assistance from the electric motor, or completely turn off the electric motor (the vehicle operates like a normal pedal bike) to serve the purpose of health training. Many electric-assisted vehicles also have a pure electric mode, when the vehicle operates like an electric bicycle with a throttle and has a maximum speed of usually 25 km/h.
Third, the battery is usually equipped to provide a travel distance of 100 - 200 km/charge in power-assisted mode, and about 20 - 60 km/charge in pure electric mode. The battery of a power-assisted vehicle is usually removable and can be conveniently charged with a household power source.

Of course, with electric bicycles, the driver is not required to have a driver's license, so it is suitable for everyone to use. At the same time, the cost of replacing the battery is also cheaper than pure electric vehicles.
However, the price of electric bicycles is not cheap, usually fluctuating over 15 million VND. However, buyers can also choose used models, Japanese electric bicycles to save more costs.
