August, with its many major national holidays, has become a special annual occasion that motivates and inspires the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO) to coordinate with the Hoan Kiem Theater to organize international symphony concert events.
This year, the "August Symphony Concert" program with the theme "Brilliance in Harmony: A Night of Musical Mastery" will take place on the evening of August 16 with the participation of famous Vietnamese and international artists.
The highlight of the "August Symphony Concert - Brilliance in Harmony: A Night of Musical Mastery" is the performance by Sergei Nakariakov, an Israeli trumpet player of Russian descent. He is one of the most sought-after names on the international stage. Music critics often use glowing terms when evaluating Sergei Nakariakov's talent, describing it as a rare combination of superb technique, velvety smooth trumpet sound, and profound musical sensitivity.
Sergei Nakariakov is known as the Paganini or Caruso of trumpets.
He was dubbed the Paganini or Caruso of the trumpet world. Nakariakov made the flugelhorn exceptionally prominent on the concert stage. Nakariakov's musical repertoire was not limited to original works written for trumpet, but extended to arrangements by Peter Ruzicka, Uri Brener, Enjott Schneider, and Jörg Widmann, where Nakariakov was able to express himself in innovative ways. Born in Gorky, Nakariakov began playing piano at the age of six and was guided to trumpet by his father, Mikhail Nakariakov. Nakariakov's father also arranged many classical pieces for trumpet and contributed to building his son's unique musical repertoire. He instilled in Nakariakov not only knowledge and technique but also a special sensitivity to music. Nakariakov frequently performs with some of the world's most renowned conductors, such as Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, Saulius Sondeckis, Christoph Eschenbach, Yury Temirkanov, Jiří Bělohlávek, and many other prestigious orchestras. He has high standards in selecting venues and performing partners. Therefore, this collaboration between Nakariakov, conductor Olivier Ochanine, and the Sun Symphony Orchestra is not only a superb testament to the rising caliber of a Vietnamese orchestra reaching world-class standards, but also promises to deliver exceptional artistic performances to music lovers in Hanoi.
Conductor Olivier Ochanine and the SSO Orchestra are actively rehearsing for the performance.
In his appearance at the Ho Guom Theatre, Nakariakov will perform a special piece – Hummel's trumpet concerto. Hummel is celebrated as an outstanding composer and conductor with a richly expressive yet contemporary style. He is renowned as a student of Mozart, and also mentored by Mozart's rival, Salieri, and influenced by Clementi and Haydn. He also had close relationships with the great composers of his time, Beethoven and Schubert. The trumpet concerto is one of Hummel's most performed and well-known works. This piece has contributed to elevating the value of the trumpet – one of the brass instruments with a unique timbre and masterful technique.
Tchaikovsky's Suite No. 3 in G Major, Op. 55 will be performed for the first time in Vietnam by the SSO Orchestra.
The highlight of the August Symphony Concert "Brilliance in Harmony: A Night of Musical Mastery" is Tchaikovsky's Suite No. 3 in G Major, Op. 55. This work, being performed for the first time in Vietnam by the SSO Orchestra, is highly anticipated by many audiences. The piece originated from Tchaikovsky's ideas for a symphony but ultimately took shape as a suite for symphony orchestra. Like much of Tchaikovsky's music, the work conveys melodious, lyrical tunes, yet with a touch of melancholy, a fleeting sadness—a characteristic feature of Russian folk music in particular and 19th-century Romantic music in general.
International and Vietnamese artists are meticulously preparing for the repertoire of the August symphony concert.
