Mobilizing social resources to invest in literature and arts

Literature and arts (VHNT) is a special field, requiring long-term investment, not only in terms of intelligence and time, but also in terms of material resources to nurture creative inspiration. In the context of limited state funding, mobilizing social resources - from the community, businesses, organizations and individuals who love literature and arts is becoming an inevitable direction, contributing to promoting the sustainable development of Lao Cai's Literature and Arts.

After a long preparation period, in July 2025, writer Doan Huu Nam launched the publication: " Lao Cai Written Literature - Origin and Development". With a thickness of 219 pages, the work is a valuable research work, comprehensively reflecting the formation and development process of written literature in the province through many historical periods.

In order for the book to reach readers, the majority of the publishing costs were paid by the writer Doan Huu Nam himself, from printing to promoting the work. However, not every writer has the conditions to print and distribute books like him. Therefore, according to the writer Doan Huu Nam, mobilizing social resources for literature and arts is very necessary, in order to support and empower creators. Although necessary, he also believes that this activity needs to be oriented and supervised by the management agency to ensure that the work follows the right path, policy and aesthetic value.

In fact, writer Doan Huu Nam has written many novels with valuable content and art, which have been signed by publishing units, responsible for investment, distribution and payment of royalties, such as the novels: Human Roots, Bandits, Forest Love... and some TV drama scripts. The recognition from readers and experts, along with the practical support from publishers and media units, has become an important source of encouragement, helping him have more conditions and inspiration to continue writing.

Every year, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association still has a source of funding to support its members, in many forms, such as: organizing creative camps, supporting printing and publishing works and directly supporting research and creative projects. However, the current level of support only ranges from 2 to 6 million VND depending on the scale of the work - a modest number compared to the investment cost for a specialized and elaborate creation. Therefore, mobilizing more social resources becomes urgent, helping artists have more motivation to pursue their creative passion.

In fact, in recent years, literary and artistic activities have increasingly received attention and participation from businesses and local authorities. Since the beginning of the year, two literary and artistic creation camps have taken place in the province: Bac Ha Creation Camp sponsored by Babeeni Group and Vo Lao Commune Literary and Art Creation Camp organized by local authorities. The creation camps took place for many days, gathering a large number of artists from many fields.

“Through sponsors, we are supported with accommodation, travel, paintings, exhibitions and promotion of works. These are things that individual artists can hardly take care of on their own. That companionship helps us feel secure to create and contribute better.”

Having just returned from the "Autumn Colors" Exhibition - where works of the Bac Ha Literature and Art Creation Camp were displayed, organized by Thanh Dong Babeeni Art Center in Hai Phong , photographer Duong Toan happily shared: "I have 23 works selected for display, in which the work "Bac Ha Tam Hoa Plum Season" was honored to win the B prize. When the work was introduced to the Hai Phong public, I was very happy and moved. This is not only a personal pride, but also an opportunity to promote the beauty of my homeland through a photographic perspective."

According to photographer Duong Toan, for photography in particular and literature and art in general to develop sustainably, the support of organizations, businesses and local authorities is needed. He hopes that there will be more creative camps, exhibitions and large-scale art photography competitions.

In the development flow of Lao Cai literature and art, the companionship of the community, businesses and local authorities not only brings material resources, but also a great source of spiritual encouragement for creators. When works are nurtured from real life, receive respect and support from society, that is also the time when literature and art truly spread, contributing to enriching the spiritual life of the people. Mobilizing social resources is not only an immediate solution, but also a long-term direction for Lao Cai literature and art to develop sustainably, preserve identity and stimulate creativity in the community.
