Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy and Acting Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van chaired the conference.

Representatives of provinces and cities with large durian areas participated in person and online to discuss. At the Ben Tre province bridge, there were Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Huynh Quang Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection Lam Van Linh, Deputy Head of the Planning and Finance Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Vo Nhat Duy.

According to Minister Do Duc Duy, the strategic role of durian in the structure of Vietnam's fruit exports requires the entire industry to make efforts to build a sustainable, transparent value chain, effectively control risks and reduce dependence on single markets. According to statistics, if in 2015, the durian growing area was only 32 thousand hectares, by 2024 it had increased to 178.8 thousand hectares (an average increase of 16.3 thousand hectares per year); in particular, in the past 5 years, despite many recommendations from professional agencies, the durian growing area has still increased 2.38 times compared to the target of developing key fruit trees by 2025 and orientation to 2030.

While the durian growing area is increasing rapidly, Vietnam's durian export market mainly depends on the Chinese market (accounting for 97.2% in 2024 and being the second largest durian supplier to China). This over-dependence is one of the reasons for fluctuations in Vietnam's durian export turnover when there is any fluctuation from the Chinese market. It is recorded that in the first 4 months of 2025, the demand of the Chinese market decreased by 46.5% in volume and 48.1% in value. The reason may be due to the trend of cutting spending due to economic difficulties and durian products have gradually lost their "heat" in this billion-people market.

Delegates focused on discussing and proposing solutions for managing growing area codes, improving preservation and processing technology, and establishing a solid legal foundation for the entire production - consumption - export chain.

According to Mr. Lam Van Linh - Deputy Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Ben Tre province, the whole province currently has 30 durian growing areas registered for export to the Chinese market, of which 15 growing areas have been granted codes with an area of over 440 hectares; 15 growing areas are waiting for approval of codes with an area of over 480 hectares. There are 5 packaging facilities registered to export durian to the Chinese market, of which 4 facilities have been approved for codes.

Immediately after the conference, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is expected to conduct a field survey at growing areas and packaging facilities with export codes in Dak Lak - a locality that plays a central role in the durian material area of the Central Highlands and the whole country.
