Bac Ai Farmers' Association: Actively supporting members in economic development

In recent years, the association's work and farmers' movement in Bac Ai district have changed in many aspects, especially in propaganda activities, implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; mobilizing farmers to change the structure of crops and livestock, associated with building cooperatives, helping members develop the economy , actively building an increasingly strong association.

A typical example is the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Thanh commune, which has done a good job of mobilizing farmers to change the structure of crops and livestock to suit local natural conditions. Thanks to that, up to now, the commune has developed nearly 40 hectares of fruit trees with high economic value with varieties such as green-skinned grapefruit, avocado, jackfruit, Taiwanese mango... and a herd of over 3,500 livestock, thereby helping the economy of many cooperatives and farmers to develop more and more.

Visiting the model of breeding cows combined with growing fruit trees of Mr. Mang Bich's family in Da Ba Cai village, we were told by Mr. Bich: Previously, his family's life was difficult, only producing one crop in the rainy season with crops such as beans and corn. Since the commune mobilized people to change crops and livestock, his family borrowed 35 million VND from the district's Social Policy Bank to buy 3 cows for breeding combined with growing fruit trees. Thanks to hard work, the family has now developed a herd of 12 cows and 3.5 hectares of land for growing cashews, coconuts, mangoes, and jackfruit, earning nearly 100 million VND each year, and the family's life is now stable.

Mr. Kator Uong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Thanh Commune, said: Currently, the Farmers' Association of the Commune is managing 3 savings and loan groups according to residential areas, with a total outstanding debt of over 4 billion VND, each household borrows an average of 15-50 million VND, with 8 credit programs. From preferential loans from the State, many members have invested for the right purposes, bringing high economic efficiency, thereby not only escaping poverty but also rising up, having a prosperous life, and at the same time contributing to creating jobs for many local workers. In the coming time, the Farmers' Association will continue to coordinate with the Social Policy Bank to create conditions for members to access capital for investment, expand economic models, develop services, and at the same time promote activities to help members develop the economy, reduce poverty sustainably, and contribute to building new rural areas in the locality.

Identifying farmers as the core in the new rural construction movement, in which increasing people's income is very important in sustainable poverty reduction for Bac Ai district. In recent times, the district Farmers' Association has focused on promoting and mobilizing farmers to transform the structure of crops and livestock according to the value chain, gradually restructuring agriculture towards sustainability. At the same time, closely following the policies being implemented in the locality, closely coordinating with the Party Committee, the government, and related sectors to guide and mobilize people to develop agricultural production, apply science and technology in the production process, adapt to climate change, thereby achieving positive results. Currently, the agricultural production area of the whole district has reached over 11,500 hectares, with over 5,000 hectares of water, helping the food output of the following year to be higher than the previous year. Many crops with high economic value suitable for local natural conditions such as grapefruit, durian, banana, cashew, mango... have affirmed their position in the area through the implementation of new production models, combined with the organization of technical training courses, vocational training to help people access science and technology to effectively apply in production; livestock farming has been directed to develop into a local strength, encouraging the development of farms, contributing to increasing the quantity and quality of livestock. Up to now, the district has developed a livestock herd of over 91,000 heads; propaganda, mobilization to consolidate and establish economic types of cooperatives, cooperative groups, develop farm economy, and joint ventures with enterprises have been encouraged.

The Farmers' Association of Bac Ai district also coordinated with sectors and localities to organize 34 propaganda sessions attracting over 21,500 cadres, members and farmers to learn about collective economy, encourage the establishment of cooperatives in places with conditions, build production linkage models between cooperative organizations according to the value chain, associated with community ecotourism to increase the value chain of local agricultural products, contributing to job creation and increasing income for members. Currently, the district has 12 cooperatives with 361 participating members, 18 professional farmer associations, 1 orphan banana cooperative and 28 farms operating in the field of livestock breeding, integrated farms and crop farms; The associations at all levels have directly and jointly implemented 12 projects in the area with a total amount of over 1.36 billion VND, with 89 households participating from association funds, including 10 projects from the support fund for farmers at all levels and 2 projects supported by the Central Association.

Thanks to the investment of the State, the orientation of the District Party Committee, the District People's Committee and the active propaganda and mobilization of farmers to change the structure of crops and livestock of the Farmers' Association at all levels, the lives of people in the district have gradually improved, the average income per capita has increased, the rate of trained workers, job creation, and labor export has increased every year, basic social services have been improved; the annual poverty rate has decreased by an average of nearly 6%, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the District Party Committee for the 13th and 14th terms (2020-2025) and the Resolution of the Executive Committee of the District Farmers' Association for the 2018-2023 term.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Bac Ai district, said: Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, the Farmers' Association of the district will continue to mobilize farmers to cooperate and develop economic models of farms and households, participate in the implementation of the policy of building large fields to create concentrated commodity production areas associated with processing and consumption of products. Actively coordinate with businesses and sectors to guide and support farmers in building models of crop production, livestock breeding, sustainable agricultural development, adaptation to climate change, organic agriculture, linking agricultural production and business with tourism to increase income for farmers and members, contributing to building new rural areas and an increasingly strong association.
