Workshop to evaluate the implementation results of the 2018 General Education Program

On the morning of December 20, the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) coordinated with functional units under the MOET to organize a workshop with the theme "Evaluation of the results of implementing the 2018 General Education Program and lessons learned".

Attending the workshop were Dr. Dang Huynh Mai, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Chairman of the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Training; leaders and members of the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry; and leaders of a number of units under the Ministry of Education and Training.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Dang Huynh Mai, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Chairman of the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Training, acknowledged: After 4 years of officially implementing the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, despite difficulties and shortages, especially having to go through the Covid-19 pandemic, certain achievements have been achieved.

During the implementation process, many localities reported that educational goals at all levels have met the requirements of innovation, suitable for students at each level. They have contributed to forming and developing the basic elements for the harmonious development of physical and mental health, qualities and abilities for children. Focusing on educating necessary habits and routines in learning and living helps students integrate into the social community where they live.

The program content demonstrates modernity, is linked to the country's reality, combines theory with practice, focuses more on training students to be proactive, independent thinkers; have the ability to detect and solve problems; work cooperatively in groups, in line with the direction of innovative teaching methods, promoting students' positivity, thinking ability, and creativity.

Dr. Nguyen Phu Tuan, Association of Former Teachers of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences , acknowledged the efforts and results that the education sector has achieved in implementing the 2018 General Education Program. That is, the Ministry of Education and Training has urgently directed the compilation of textbooks according to the policy of "one program, many sets of textbooks" to be closer to the world trend; the progress of implementing the 2018 general education program is on schedule.

According to Dr. Nguyen Phu Tuan, with the determination to overcome difficulties of educational management levels of the teaching staff, the implementation of educational plans at all levels has become increasingly stable. STEM education has been proactively deployed in educational institutions from preschool to primary, secondary and high school. Vocational education and orientation, student streaming after secondary and high school to create a high-quality source of human resources, suitable for the needs of socio-economic development is a very important task of the national education system. Organizing and teaching local education is meaningful, creating excitement for students and teachers.

Mr. Pham Duc Hanh, Vice President of the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Training, said that localities and educational institutions have promoted initiative and flexibility in implementing the 2018 General Education Program. The teaching staff has basically implemented effective teaching methods and forms; innovated testing and assessment methods to develop students' capacity and qualities. Management has gradually shifted towards school governance. The quality of mass and key education continues to be improved, specifically, Vietnamese students have achieved many high results in regional and international exams.

The implementation of “one program, many textbooks” has been effectively implemented, promoting outstanding advantages, helping to fundamentally change the shift from teaching and learning to impart knowledge to teaching and learning to develop students’ qualities and abilities. Difficulties and obstacles in assigning teachers and organizing teaching of new subjects have been gradually resolved. The forms of teaching and learning have become more diverse, with the initial application of advanced technology. The results show that students are more confident, dare to express their opinions and have more outstanding skills, and their ability to work in groups has improved significantly.

To continue to effectively implement the 2018 General Education Program, Ms. Vu Thi Lan, Vice President of the Association of Former Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Training, proposed: It is necessary to continue to widely disseminate information to the people, especially parents and students, to clearly understand the superiority, superiority, necessity of implementing the Program and the role of the 2018 General Education Program in the 4.0 era and the trend of global integration. Teachers - one of the important factors determining the success of the Program, need to be fully concerned in all aspects.

Along with that, there needs to be solutions to increase additional investment and improve existing facilities; there needs to be appropriate methods to implement the transfer of necessary content for students from primary school to lower secondary school and to high school; organize a summary after a period of implementing the Program to have timely and highly effective guidance measures.

At the workshop, Director of the Department of Secondary Education Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Director of the Department of Primary Education Thai Van Tai also shared, discussed and clarified some contents being implemented in the 2018 General Education Program.

Emphasizing the purpose of the workshop is to summarize the achieved results, and at the same time point out the shortcomings and difficulties in the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program of localities and educational institutions in the past time, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training Dang Huynh Mai also said: The opinions at the workshop will contribute to the Ministry of Education and Training to have more documents to prepare for the summary of the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program and continue to perfect the implementation in the following school years.
