Effective projects
Implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, from 2022 to present, the Women's Union of Tay Giang district has deployed 2 livestock livelihood models according to the value chain: raising Muscovy ducks in Lang commune and raising local pigs in 2 communes of Ga Ri and Axan. The total implementation cost is more than 1 billion VND.
In Nal village (Lang commune), 15 households (including 11 poor households, 1 near-poor household and 3 households that have just escaped poverty) were supported with nearly 3,000 Muscovy ducks. Ms. Briu Thi Nem - Chairwoman of the District Women's Union said that despite facing harsh weather conditions and a loss rate of about 30% of ducks, households still strived to take care of them and apply techniques to develop their duck flocks. To date, households have sold nearly 1,900 ducks, earning more than 365 million VND. Some households have proactively restored their flocks and continued to expand the model.

With the grass-fed pig farming model, 15 poor households in Ating village (Ga Ri commune) and Ki'noonh village (Axan commune) were supported with 150 piglets (10 pigs/household). Thanks to technical guidance, the pigs grew well, reaching a weight of 45-60kg, and began to reproduce. Some households sold the pigs to reinvest and improve their livelihoods.
“After more than 2 years of implementation, the 2 models have helped 10 households escape poverty, and many other households have the conditions to restore their herds. Although there are still difficulties in barns, care and techniques, the initial results are very positive, contributing to increasing income, stabilizing life, and changing women's business mindset,” Ms. Nem shared.

Similarly, Tay Giang District Youth Union implemented a Muscovy duck farming model for 20 union member households and disadvantaged youth in Bhalêê commune. Each household was provided with nearly 100 ducks, along with 175kg of feed. Thanks to favorable weather, mastering techniques and taking advantage of available feed sources, households raised ducks effectively, with a survival rate of over 80%. Typically, households such as Bling Bới, Bnướch Niêm, Pơloong A Bồ, Avô Đố and Bling Pong achieved a survival rate of over 85%, ducks weighing 2.5-4kg/duck, and sold more than 50% of the total flock.

Mr. Aral Hoang - Secretary of the District Youth Union informed: "We not only give breeds but also give opportunities. Happily, 13 households have escaped poverty, 10 other households continue to re-herd, maintain their livelihoods, and strive to stabilize their lives."
Livelihood diversification
Under the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Project 2 on “Diversifying Livelihoods, Developing Poverty Reduction Models” for the 2021-2024 period has been effectively implemented by Tay Giang District. With a total capital of more than 18 billion VND, the district has implemented 20 projects in 10 communes, mobilizing departments, agencies, unions and local authorities to participate as investors.

The models are built according to the value chain, from production to consumption, focusing on areas suitable for each region's conditions such as growing ginseng, Morinda officinalis, purple lemongrass; raising cows, goats, pigs, Muscovy ducks, etc. More than 460 households participate, most of whom are poor, near-poor and newly escaped poverty households.
Many models have achieved clear results such as raising breeding cows in Bhalêê and Lăng communes; growing green-skinned grapefruit in Avương commune; raising goats in Dang and Avương communes... Mr. Tran Van Ta - Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Environment said that the implementation process encountered difficulties because most of the participants were elderly and lacked labor. However, linking the project with product consumption linkage has opened up a new direction in household economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the highlands.

According to the People's Committee of Tay Giang district, after more than 4 years of implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the number of poor households in the district has decreased from 3,581 households (66.1%) in 2021 to 2,468 households (43.16%) by the end of 2024. The annual poverty reduction rate reached more than 7.4%, exceeding the general target for poor districts (from 4-5%/year) according to Decision No. 90 dated January 18, 2022 of the Prime Minister . By the end of 2025, the district strives to have more than 410 households escape poverty and the average income per capita is estimated at more than 36 million VND/year.
