According to a VNA correspondent in Japan, on October 29, the Vietnam-Japan Seminar on Innovation and Human Resource Development for Semiconductors opened at the Fukuoka International Convention Center in Fukuoka City, Japan. The event is an important milestone for Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the semiconductor industry. The seminar was organized under the coordination of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, the Institute of Comprehensive Science - Kyushu University and the Organization for Support of Foreign Human Resources in Japan, with the participation of 150 in-person delegates and 200 online delegates. On the Japanese side, there was the participation of Ms. Omagari Akie, Deputy Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture; Member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Soramoto Seiki, expert on atomic energy and semiconductors; Mr. Hoshinomi Tsuaki, Director of the Kyushu Department of Economy, Trade and Industry; Mr. Fujishima Yasuyuki, Chairman of the Human Resources Support Organization for Foreign Workers in Japan (HuRedee); Mr. Tanimoto Jun, Vice President of Kyushu University and representatives of Hiroshima University. This is an activity to implement the direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on the implementation of Decision No. 1018/QD-TTg dated September 21, 2024 of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the Strategy for developing Vietnam's semiconductor industry to 2030 and vision to 2050 by Vietnamese representative agencies abroad. According to the Organizing Committee, the Workshop is a forum for delegates from the two countries to share experiences, enhance and promote the transfer of technology and knowledge in the semiconductor manufacturing industry from Japan to Vietnam, support the development of professional capacity of high-quality human resources in Vietnam; create internship and work opportunities for Vietnamese students and experts in Japan, contributing to improving professional qualifications and expanding career prospects in the field of electronic semiconductors; propose and implement long-term cooperation plans in developing human resources and improving production and research capacity in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam. In her opening speech, Ms. Vu Chi Mai - Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka emphasized: “Semiconductors are an important field in modern industry, a technological foundation for essential manufacturing industries. Innovation is a key factor to promote the strong development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, while enhancing international competitiveness. The cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in this field is extremely meaningful.” The Japanese partner also highly appreciated Vietnam's potential in the semiconductor field and identified Vietnam as an important partner of Japan to revive and develop this indispensable industry in the future. Dr. Tanimoto Jun - Executive Vice President of Kyushyu University, Japan said: “The semiconductor industry is becoming increasingly important and strategic, and Japan is currently promoting research and development in this field. However, Japan cannot achieve its goals alone, while Vietnam has great potential for developing the semiconductor industry. Therefore, Vietnam has become an important partner of Japan in the semiconductor industry. Currently, there are many Vietnamese students and researchers studying and researching semiconductors at Kyushyu University. These people will become the core of the Japan-Vietnam semiconductor network.” Meanwhile, according to Representative Soramoto Seiki, both Vietnam and Japan are focusing on developing the semiconductor industry, so cooperation, sharing of technology and human resources between the two countries is very important to promote technology in this industry. In addition to production and technical improvement, cooperation between the two countries also includes human resource training and business development opportunities. The ultimate goal is to bring semiconductor products from both countries to the international market through extensive cooperation in research, production and application development. Regarding Kyushu and Fukuoka City - where the semiconductor industry is developing strongly, delegates attending the workshop assessed that this will be a potential area for human resource cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. (Photo: Xuan Giao/ VNA) Speaking at the workshop, Fukuoka Deputy Governor Omagari Akie shared that in Kyushu in general and Fukuoka in particular, the semiconductor industry is thriving with about 1,000 companies involved in many aspects of semiconductor manufacturing. Fukuoka has about 400 of those companies, including companies involved in planning and design, materials, testing and many other fields. To address the shortage of human resources in the semiconductor industry, Fukuoka has pioneered the country in opening the Fukuoka Semiconductor Retraining Center in August 2023 to strengthen human resources in the semiconductor industry in Kyushu and Japan, contributing to the development of the thriving semiconductor industry and other digital-related industries. Kyushu Economy , Trade and Industry Director Hoshino Mitsuaki emphasized the potential for human resource cooperation with Vietnam. According to him, in the context of Japan's serious shortage of human resources, human resources from Vietnam play an important role in the development process in general and in Japan's semiconductor industry in particular. In the future, Japan will have to come up with solutions to attract more high-quality human resources, including Vietnamese students, into this field. Japan is currently implementing a large investment plan in the semiconductor industry, especially in Kyushu, and expects to cooperate with Vietnam to build a supply chain and develop the semiconductor industry in the future. Meanwhile, Mr. Fujishima Yasuyuki, Chairman of the Organization for Supporting Foreign Human Resources in Japan (HuRedee), emphasized the formation and cooperation process between Huredee and 3 Vietnamese universities (University of Science and Technology, University of Transport, University of Information Technology - Ho Chi Minh National University) in training high-quality human resources, including in the semiconductor field. He expected that during the 2-day workshop, scholars would discuss many challenges that HuRedee and Vietnamese partners have faced in the semiconductor industry. Through open and constructive dialogues, the workshop could come to a conclusion on future cooperation activities. At the end of the working session on October 29, the Organizing Committee held a signing ceremony for a joint statement on “Vietnam-Japan Cooperation in Semiconductor Human Resource Development” between Kyushu University, the Japan Human Resources and Employment Development Organization, the University of Science and Technology, the University of Transport and Communications, and the University of Information Technology of Vietnam. As planned, the Vietnam-Japan Seminar on Innovation and Development of Semiconductor Human Resources will continue on October 30 at Chikushi Campus, Kyushu University.
