Competition performance of students from Hong Ha Primary School, Binh Thanh District
According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the contest aims to create opportunities for students to effectively use English to tell about Vietnamese history through the stage; thereby, contributing to consolidating historical knowledge as well as improving their English proficiency, an extremely meaningful activity, contributing to promoting the successful implementation of the 2018 General Education Program of the Ministry of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City. The contest is also an opportunity for managers and teachers to evaluate the English teaching activities of their units.
Every Vietnamese citizen has the right to be proud of the heroic history of the nation. During more than 4000 years of fighting to build and defend the country, we have had many examples of young heroes who contributed to the resistance war and sacrificed for national independence. They are shining examples for future generations to follow. Many schools in Ho Chi Minh City are honored to be named after heroes.

On April 4, the audience enjoyed excellent performances by primary school students through works such as: Birds flying towards the sun - recreating the image of Kim Dong, Hero of the reed flag - Dinh Bo Linh, along with recreating many characters in Vietnamese history such as Hai Ba Trung, Luong The Vinh, Phu Dong, Le Quy Don, Vo Thi Sau, Le Van Tam, Tran Quoc Toan, Ly Thuong Kiet, ...
In the form of musicals, the performances are extremely lively, as students use dialogue entirely in English, and even songs, nursery rhymes, and folk songs have new lyrics written in English...
Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc expressed that the Department of Education and Training hopes that the Vietnam Historical Musical Competition will be a festival, a healthy playground for primary school students to learn English at schools in Ho Chi Minh City, creating opportunities for students to use English creatively to recreate the heroic history of the nation, helping to promote the beauty of culture, history, moral values, patriotism for primary school students. From there, aiming to cultivate in them love for their homeland, country, and pride in the nation.

“In particular, the contest also helps students to introduce Vietnamese history and the history of Ho Chi Minh City when interacting and communicating with international students and guests; this is also an opportunity for international friends to better understand Vietnamese culture, history and people,” Mr. Quoc emphasized.
The contest aims to create opportunities for students to use English creatively to recreate the heroic history of the nation.
Before participating in the City-level Competition, Thu Duc City and 21 districts organized a grassroots competition with the active, enthusiastic and lively participation of 100% of primary schools in the area. After the grassroots competition, each unit selected the 2 best performances to participate in the City-level competition.
