On the evening of August 19, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, the Southeast Asian Taekwondo Federation, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, held the opening ceremony of the 17th Southeast Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship.
Taking place from August 18 to 21 in Nha Trang ward ( Khanh Hoa ), the tournament gathered 322 martial artists (170 men, 152 women) from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei and Vietnam.
The fighters participated in the content for men's and women's fighting and performance of the championship and youth championship of Southeast Asia.
The Vietnamese taekwondo team participated in the tournament with the best force including many familiar faces such as Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Lien Thi Tuyet Mai, Tran Thi Anh Tuyet...
Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet - Director of the Vietnam Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - said this is an important international sports event of the year, preparing for the 33rd SEA Games.
"The tournament is expected to create a useful playground, promote exchange, learning, improve professional qualifications, and strengthen solidarity and friendship between countries. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to introduce the image, beauty of culture and Vietnamese people to friends in Southeast Asian countries and internationally," said Mr. Viet.
Immediately after the tournament, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation continues to organize the 2025 International Club Championship, lasting until August 25.
