More than 5,000 students participate in "Ho Chi Minh City Open Math Festival"

"Ho Chi Minh City Open Math Festival" in 2024 with the theme "Playing with Math" attracted more than 5,000 students from all schools in Ho Chi Minh City.


On the morning of December 8, "Ho Chi Minh City Open Math Festival" was held at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

Arriving early at the festival, Ly Phu Son - an 11th grade student at Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted expressed his excitement at being exposed to interesting experiential activities. "I am very excited to come to this festival. Here, I have participated in many interesting mathematical experiential activities. At the same time, the festival has the participation of the university I am studying, so I am very happy."

Like Son, many other students expressed their happiness at being exposed to Mathematics in many interesting ways, in line with the theme of the festival, "Playing with Math".

The event is divided into 2 parts including: Professional activities; Experiential activities "In the magical land of Mathematics".

Specifically, the "In the magical land of Mathematics" experiential activity section gathered the participation of 23 units to coordinate the organization of more than 100 experiential activities and games related to the application of Mathematics, STEM, AI, ...

With thorough investment, the program has brought extremely interesting experiences and discoveries to participants. In particular, the Organizing Committee and content organizers prepared thousands of gifts such as handheld calculators, books, magazines, water bottles, teddy bears, notebooks, pens, keychains, etc. for students participating in the experience. According to information from the Organizing Committee, the event "Ho Chi Minh City Open Math Festival" in 2024 attracted 5,000-5,500 participants.

The participating units come from the Mathematics departments of universities. Together with the centers and units in the education sector, there are diverse and rich experiential activities on the application of Mathematics, STEM, and AI.

The professional activities include a public lecture: "Mathematics in Biomedicine" and a seminar "Teaching, learning and applying Mathematics in the digital age".

Math Open Day (MOD) is a series of open activities about Mathematics and STEM in general, aiming to create opportunities for a large number of students, teachers, parents, mathematicians and educators to discuss current topics in mathematics and mathematics education.

At the same time, together we experience and enjoy the beauty of Mathematics and learn about the colorful applications of Mathematics in science and life.

MOD was first held in Hanoi in 2015, then expanded to provinces and cities across the country such as Ho Chi Minh City, Quy Nhon, Can Tho, Da Nang, Dong Thap, Hue, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, Bac Giang, Ninh Binh. Starting from 2020 until now, under the professional sponsorship of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, MOD has transferred its organizational model to localities. This is also a series of activities of the Institute to celebrate International Mathematics Day, March 14 every year.
