Hung Yen: Special Autumn Festival at Dong Bang Temple

Dong Bang Temple is a historical-cultural relic located in Dong Bang village, Dong Bang commune, Hung Yen province, on the Mai Diem river. This is the place to worship the father King Bat Hai Dong Dinh, who had great merit in helping the 18th Hung King fight the enemy to defend the country and recruit people to establish villages. In addition, the temple is also a place to commemorate Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan and famous generals of the Tran dynasty in the 3 resistance wars against the Yuan-Mongol army.

The temple was built in the architectural style of "front Nhi-back Dinh", creating a closed and majestic complex. With such great values, Dong Bang Temple was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Relic in 1986. In 2016, the Traditional Festival of Dong Bang Temple continued to be included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The 2025 Dong Bang Temple Festival was held from October 11 to 17.

The festival includes two main parts: the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony begins with the procession of the god's palanquin from the Mau Sinh Temple, the temples of the First, Second, Third, Seventh and Eighth Mandarins to the main temple of King Cha Bat Hai. Next are the incense offering rituals, the procession of the memorial tablet, and the gong and drum dance ceremony to open the festival. A special ritual of the festival is the farewell ceremony, which means ending the series of festivals and "asking for fire" to pray for luck. .

During the festival, people and visitors from all over can participate in many religious activities such as worshiping, offering incense and being a medium. The festival is also very exciting with folk games and sports competitions such as: boat racing, tug of war, wrestling, chess, cockfighting... Dong Bang Temple Festival is preserved to preserve the traditional cultural beauty and noble human values. This is also an opportunity to express gratitude, the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking" of our nation along with admiration and respect for the King of Bat Hai Dong Dinh.
