Directions to get rich from new bean varieties in Ha Tinh

On May 14, in Duc Minh commune (Ha Tinh), the National Agricultural Extension Center in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Tinh organized a seminar on "Solutions for developing and expanding the 12DX02 green bean variety in the Central and Central Highlands provinces". The activity aims to introduce, evaluate and build a model for intensive cultivation of the new green bean variety, aiming to expand to key production areas.

Green bean variety 12ĐX02 has many outstanding characteristics such as short growing period of 70-75 days, suitable for many crops in a year; 55-65 cm tall plant, thick stem, moderate branching, good lodging resistance; glossy green seeds, suitable for domestic consumption and export. In particular, 12ĐX02 flowers and ripens fruit in a concentrated manner, convenient for harvesting, good drought tolerance and resistance to some major diseases such as brown spots and powdery mildew.

Through testing in many provinces in the North and Central regions, the variety has an average yield of 18-22 tons/ha, intensive cultivation can reach 2.0 tons/ha. Many localities such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh , Quang Tri highly appreciate the adaptability of the variety, especially on land lacking water such as riverside alluvial land, sandy soil, high fields without enough water for rice cultivation.

In Ha Tinh alone, the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated to build an intensive farming model of 12DX02 variety on a scale of 15 hectares, aiming for a yield of over 1.5 tons/ha and economic efficiency increased by more than 20% compared to production outside the model.

Ha Tinh people are excited when the new bean variety has high yield and quality.

Ms. Dao Thi Ly (56 years old, Thinh Kim village, Duc Minh commune), one of the households participating in the model, shared: “My family planted 1 sao of new bean variety, this crop's expected yield is about 80 kg/sao, higher than the usual bean variety. This new bean variety is big, shiny, and plump, so many people order it. The current selling price fluctuates between 40,000-45,000 VND/kg at the field. People are very excited because this new bean variety has a high price, stable output, and many abandoned fields now have a new direction for development to get rich.”

Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, said that this is a new green bean variety with high yield, good growth, and concentrated harvest, so it saves labor.

Putting the 12ĐX02 mung bean variety into production is not only a short-term solution to increase productivity but also a long-term strategy to adapt to climate change.

“This is a new variety, grows well, has few pests and diseases, and has a short and concentrated harvest time, so labor costs are significantly reduced. We will closely coordinate with localities to transfer technology, provide quality seeds, and connect businesses to purchase products, helping people feel secure in production and avoid being forced to lower prices by traders,” said Mr. Thanh.

According to experts, the introduction of the 12ĐX02 mung bean variety into production not only helps diversify the crop structure, effectively utilize water-deficient land, but also increases farmers' income. When combined with synchronous scientific and technical solutions, this variety promises to become a key crop in many localities, creating a way for people to get rich.
