At Trai market (Tran Phu ward), seafood supply has decreased and is less diverse than a week ago, and prices have increased slightly by 10-20%. According to many traders, the stormy weather in recent days has prevented boats from going out to sea. In addition, some fishing equipment of fishermen has been damaged and needs time to be repaired, causing a shortage of seafood supply.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc - a seafood vendor at Trai market said: "Although the quantity of goods has decreased and the variety is less, the demand of people is still very high. Currently, the selling price of most seafood products has increased slightly from 10,000 - 50,000 VND/kg compared to normal days. The main source of goods is from some fishing boats near the shore. To give customers more choices, I also add some types of seafood, frozen goods..."
Surveyed at the local market in Ha Tinh , the prices of all kinds of seafood have increased compared to the time before the storm. Specifically, some popular items such as: mackerel 45,000 - 50,000 VND/kg (up 10,000 VND/kg); stingray 220,000 - 250,000 VND/kg (up 20,000 - 50,000 VND/kg); mackerel 200,000 VND/kg (up 20,000 VND/kg); tuna 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg (up 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg); shrimp 300,000 - 350,000 VND/kg (up 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg)...

Ms. Tran Thi Viet (a seafood vendor at Vuon Uom market, Thanh Sen ward) said: “Our goods are mainly sourced from sources in Thien Cam commune, Loc Ha commune… In the past few days, fishermen have been anchored ashore to avoid the storm, so the supply is very limited. Not only that, getting goods and transporting them in heavy rain and strong winds is also very difficult, so a slight increase in the selling price is also suitable to make the consumption of goods easier.”
Although the price of fresh products has increased slightly, the price of grilled and frozen seafood has remained stable compared to the time before the storm. Specifically, grilled mackerel costs from 10,000 - 45,000 VND/fish depending on weight, grilled mackerel costs from 250,000 VND/kg... The abundant supply of grilled and frozen seafood meets the consumption needs of the people.

Ms. Tran Thi Hong (resident group 6, Thanh Sen ward) said: “My whole family loves to eat seafood, so every time I go to the market, I buy all kinds to store for later use. In the past few days, there has been heavy rain, fishermen have had a very dangerous fishing trip, and small traders have had a hard time importing goods, so it is understandable that the selling price has increased slightly. Hopefully, in the coming time, the weather will be favorable for boats to go out to sea, bringing back more diverse and fresh seafood.”
Since August 30, to avoid the impact of storm No. 6, 3,984 vehicles/10,994 workers in Ha Tinh have proactively anchored at ports and not gone out to sea. Currently, storm No. 6 has weakened and moved to Laos. However, heavy rain is still forecast in the area, so to ensure safety, many fishermen choose to anchor, reinforce their boats, and wait for favorable weather to go out to sea.
“My boat regularly supplies seafood to traders at Ha Tinh market, Hoi market and local markets. Storm No. 5 damaged the boat so I am focusing on repairing it, hoping to be able to go out to sea to fish in the next 2-3 days. This time, seafood prices have increased so we are working hard, hoping to have a good income” – Mr. Hoang Ba Thanh (Xuan Nam village, Thien Cam commune) said.

According to fishermen and traders, seafood prices fluctuate depending on the weather, catch volume and market purchasing power. Ha Tinh is currently in the rainy and stormy season, so it is predicted that seafood prices will continue to fluctuate in the coming time. Traders said they will continuously update appropriate prices, ensuring "fair buying and selling" to both support fishermen in consuming seafood and provide fresh products for people's daily meals.
