My Dao Cooperative (Sin Ho commune) adds ginseng leaves and many natural herbs to the feed for white horses.
The model is considered a new direction in local economic development. Because white horses are not only rare animals with high economic value and are in great demand in the market. With a strict care process, ensuring veterinary hygiene, combining natural grazing and barns according to biosafety standards, the model not only helps increase product value but also contributes to environmental protection and increases income for cooperative members.
It is known that, at the beginning, My Dao Cooperative raised a total herd of 17 white horses, now increasing to 30, gradually forming a closed production - processing - consumption chain, associated with the conservation of rare native horse genetic resources. Not only bringing economic value with an income of more than 100 million VND/month, the model also opens up new opportunities in transforming livelihoods for local people, especially in the context of climate change and an increasingly strict agricultural market with quality standards. In the future, if there is more systematic investment in techniques, breeds and consumption markets, the model can be replicated in many localities with similar conditions in the province.
From the initial results, My Dao Cooperative is gradually perfecting the livestock raising process according to the value chain, from selecting breeds, breeding, caring, to processing products from white horses in the direction of medicinal herbs. Mr. Giang Xuan Cuong - Director of My Dao Cooperative shared: "Raising white horses not only brings high income but also preserves the genetic resources of native horses. This is a livestock that is very suitable for the climate and terrain of the highlands. In particular, white horses are cared for in this way, the products have medicinal value".
According to Mr. Cuong, the process of raising white horses is systematically built by the cooperative, following an organic and closed direction, ensuring factors from breeds, food sources, barn hygiene to disease control. Horses are grazed naturally on the hillsides, and local herbs such as angelica leaves, codonopsis pilosula, etc. are added to the diet to increase resistance, replacing conventional antibiotics. Periodically, the cooperative coordinates with veterinary staff to check the health, vaccinate and closely record each individual horse. In addition, the process of preparing and processing products from white horses is also properly invested. After reaching the standard age and weight, horses will be carefully selected to process product lines. In addition, manure is composted to make organic fertilizer for circular agricultural models. The entire process is monitored to ensure food hygiene and safety and traceability.
Currently, the Cooperative is coordinating with a number of research institutes and medicinal enterprises inside and outside the province to standardize breeding and processing processes, moving towards building geographical indications and raw material area codes. This is an important step to increase product value, while affirming the role of the Cooperative in the high-tech agricultural production chain, associated with traditional medicine and sustainable development. Not only is it economic, the model also creates many on-site jobs for local workers, especially women and ethnic minorities.
Mr. Le Ba Son - Chairman of Sin Ho Commune People's Committee said: "The white horse breeding model of My Dao Cooperative is also a new economic development direction, a fulcrum for the locality to realize the goal of developing ecological agriculture, green economy, and smart rural areas. In the coming time, the commune will continue to support the replication of the model through integration with national target programs: building new rural areas, sustainable poverty reduction and developing ethnic minority areas".
From a small economic model in the Sin Ho highlands, raising white horses in the direction of medicinal herbs has gradually affirmed its clear economic efficiency and long-term orientation. Not only creating sustainable livelihoods, preserving indigenous livestock breeds, but also contributing to laying the foundation for a new direction in developing regional specialty agriculture. This is a vivid demonstration of the creative approach of the indigenous people. If invested in the right direction, with synchronous policies, infrastructure, markets and scientific and technical connections, the white horse raising model in Sin Ho commune can completely reach out of the rocky plateau, reaching large markets, where value lies not in quantity, but in quality.
