The first landslide occurred on May 5. |
It is known that on May 5, 2025, at canal 7, team 1, Hau Vinh hamlet, Hau Thanh commune, Cai Be district, a serious landslide occurred with a large scale of 42 m long, 10.5 m wide, 4 m high at Mr. Le Van Vui's household. The entire block of land collapsed into the canal, completely blocking people's motorbike travel and agricultural product transportation.
Most recently, on June 12, 2025, another serious landslide occurred at the road section along Canal 28 with a landslide length of more than 30 m at the households of Ms. Dang Thi Luong, Mr. Pham Van Hoang and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son in Hoa Dien Hamlet, Hoa Khanh Commune, Cai Be District. This shows that the landslide situation is becoming increasingly serious and spreading to many areas.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cai Be district, up to now, the landslide has spread further, with a new landslide section with a length of 10 m. In addition, there is a second crack extending from Mr. Truong Minh Dung's house to Mr. Nguyen Van Tac's house with a length of 46.5 m, the crack has spread to 1/3 of the asphalt road.
Landslide point 2. |
Particularly serious, the affected area is not only the traffic route but also the dike protecting nearly 30 hectares of fruit gardens of people in Team 1, Hau Vinh Hamlet, Hau Thanh Commune and more than 40 hectares of gardens of people in Hoa Khanh Commune. The landslide has cut off traffic between Hau Thanh Commune and Hoa Khanh Commune.
Vice Chairman of Hau Thanh Commune People's Committee Tran Huu Thanh said that the locality had fenced off the dangerous area immediately after the landslide occurred and sent an urgent document to Cai Be District People's Committee asking for financial support for emergency repairs.
Currently, Cai Be District People's Committee has directed Hau Thanh Commune People's Committee to use commune-level funding and mobilize other legal sources to temporarily reinforce earth bags and build temporary dikes to prevent high tides from intruding.
According to information from Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cai Be District, Vo Tan Thuan, temporary remedial measures are being urgently implemented, including building temporary embankments and paving roads with tarpaulins and sand to ensure people can travel. The estimated cost for temporary flood protection is about 50 million VND. However, because the project is in the warranty period, some construction items such as embankments and walkways for people have not been completed. Local authorities are asking the investor and the construction unit to coordinate to investigate, determine the cause of the landslide and implement appropriate remedial measures.
According to the leader of Cai Be district, due to the large scale of the project, the temporary handling as before by filling the land and planting trees will not be effective enough. To complete the road section and thoroughly handle the landslide, it is necessary to carry out a solid construction with a total estimated cost of about 12 billion VND. Currently, the district is urgently preparing documents to request funding approval from the provincial level with an amount of about 12 billion VND to implement the comprehensive repair project.
With the appearance of another landslide in Hoa Khanh commune, the situation has become even more serious. Mr. Nguyen Van Vui, a resident living near the landslide, shared: "The landslide has separated Hau Thanh commune and Hoa Khanh commune, making it impossible for people to travel. Especially, preparing for the flood season, when the water rises, this entire area will be heavily flooded. If not promptly remedied, the landslide will seriously affect the economy as well as the transportation of agricultural products and people's travel. Especially when the rainy season is coming, we are worried that we will not be able to protect the dike line."
Immediate remediation of these landslides is of great importance in maintaining inter-commune traffic routes, protecting dozens of hectares of orchards and ensuring the safety of local people's lives and property before the upcoming storm season.
