Recently, in Phu Tan district, storms and heavy rains affected 131 houses in the communes of Phu An, Phu Lam, Phu Thanh, Phu Tho, Long Hoa and Cho Vam town. Of which, Phu An commune suffered the most damage with 59 houses (10 houses completely collapsed, 49 houses had their roofs blown off or were crooked). The total damage to houses is estimated at more than 2.1 billion VND. In addition, natural disasters also caused damage to agriculture . Many orchards that were in the harvest season were completely destroyed, including perennial fruit trees and short-term crops. The extent of the damage is being estimated. Infrastructure (including electric poles and transformer stations) was also damaged, causing more than 1.2 billion VND in damage.

After the disaster, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee provided support to households with over 50% damage, including 13 houses that completely collapsed (VND 5 million/house); 49 houses with roofs blown off or were crooked (VND 3 million/house), totaling VND 212 million. The Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the District People's Committee, members of the Steering Committee for Climate Change Response - Disaster Prevention and Control and Civil Defense (BDKH - PCTT and PTDS) of the district divided into 4 working groups, directly went to the area to inspect and direct the work of overcoming the consequences. At the same time, immediate support was provided to 58 affected households, each with VND 1 million. On-site forces overcame the incident; supported and visited affected households, and arranged temporary accommodation.

Urgent recovery after natural disasters

Localities are also actively supporting people affected by the disaster to stabilize their lives soon. Phu Thanh commune has supported each family whose roof was completely blown off, 1 million VND; received support from a philanthropist for each family with 500,000 VND. Phu Tho commune visited, encouraged, and gave 5 million VND to each household to overcome the consequences. In Phu An commune alone, it is expected that by May 10, the households whose houses collapsed or had their roofs blown off will be completely repaired. According to Chairman of Phu An commune People's Committee Huynh Duy Phuong, the commune supported each family whose house was completely blown off with 2 million VND/household, and each household whose roof was blown off with 1 million VND; philanthropists inside and outside the locality sent many support gifts including cash, rice, noodles, solar lamps, etc.

According to the assessment of the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station and specialized agencies, the total rainfall in April 2025 is generally 5-10% higher than the average of many years in the same period. May - June 2025 is 5-15% higher than the average of many years; July - September 2025 is approximately the average of many years... The District People's Committee requests the Steering Committee for Climate Change Response - Disaster Prevention and Control and Disaster Prevention of the district and commune to closely monitor forecast bulletins, promptly warn information, and proactively respond appropriately to the local situation. In particular, proactively prevent dangerous weather phenomena, especially during the transition period and the first months of the 2025 rainy season (from the end of April onwards).

Along with propaganda, it is necessary to strengthen inspection and guidance for organizations, households and individuals to reinforce, brace and repair houses, warehouses, factories, enterprises and public works to increase their stability. The broadcasting system should step up propaganda and disseminate to people how to recognize and respond to rain, storms with whirlwinds, lightning, landslides, etc. Mobilize forces and people to prune trees and large trees at risk of falling; check billboards and advertising signs that are potentially unsafe within the scope of management, etc.

Due to the island's terrain and many canals, the District People's Committee requested specialized agencies to organize a review and identify dangerous areas, especially areas at risk of landslides on riverbanks and canals, especially dangerous areas as warned by the Department of Agriculture and Environment; proactively plan to evacuate people and property from dangerous areas. For places where there are no conditions for immediate evacuation, the locality must have a proactive evacuation plan to ensure the safety of people's lives. Inspect and handle cases of violations of legal regulations on irrigation, dykes, and natural disaster prevention and control.

Due to the impact of climate change, natural disasters are occurring more and more irregularly, with extreme intensity. This reality requires more comprehensive attention to natural disaster prevention and control, proactive response, minimizing human and property damage, and ensuring socio -economic development.
