For drivers who demand more than just off-road capability, the latest Trialmaster X Letech versions of the Ineos Grenadier off-road SUV and Quartermaster pickup truck arrive with a host of significant upgrades, at a price to match. With increased ground clearance, a portal axle and off-road kit, the upgraded Ineos Grenadier and Quartermaster Trialmaster X Letech are designed for truly extreme terrain.
The Quartermaster Trialmaster X Letech pickup concept was unveiled at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. After receiving positive feedback from customers. With more than 1,000 registrations of interest and “a lot from rescue services, relief agencies and other commercial fleets operating vehicles in harsh environments,” Ineos has decided to offer the production version, as well as the SUV-styled Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech variant. Highlights of both models include heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension with portal axles and off-center axles. Combined with 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, ground clearance has been increased by 186mm to an impressive 450mm. This gives the vehicle the ability to wade through water up to 1,050mm deep. According to the company, the new setup offers "a larger track, optimized weight distribution, greater wheel travel and improved axle articulation," making the Grenadier better able to perform in "deep sand, severe waterlogging or extremely rocky environments."
From the outside, the Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech looks as tall and imposing as the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4². It rides on 18-inch beadlock forged alloy wheels, housed in extended fenders. Additional equipment includes a front-mounted winch, side steps, roof-mounted LED headlights and a roof rack fitted to carry items such as Maxtrax sand boards. At the rear, the Grenadier Station Wagon gets a new spare wheel carrier and a rear ladder for roof access, while the Quartermaster can be equipped with a locking rear cargo box and LED taillights. Inside, the interior features leather upholstery, heated front seats, a premium audio system, a Safari sunroof, privacy glass and carpeted floors. The car also comes with an integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The engines are carried over from the standard Grenadier, meaning buyers can choose between a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder, powered by petrol or diesel. The special edition Grenadier has a towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload of up to 642kg for the Quartermaster pick-up.
As the name suggests, both Trialmaster X Letechs were converted by Stuttgart-based Letech GmbH, a company known for restoring and customizing classic off-road vehicles, along with developing specialized models and accessories in small quantities. The company imports the bike directly from Ineos’ Hambach factory in France, from where Letech installs the entire upgrade package itself before delivering the bike to the customer. Ineos is now accepting orders for the Grenadier Trialmaster in Germany, and according to the brand’s CEO In terms of price, the Trialmaster X Letech Station Wagon starts at around €170,000 ($199,000) excluding VAT and local taxes. The Quartermaster pickup version is around €1,000 ($1,200) more expensive. However, this is still quite cheap compared to off-road vehicles with portal axles, especially since they are not limited in production.
