De Paul joins Inter Miami. |
According to ESPN , Inter Miami spent 15 million euros to recruit Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid. The Argentine midfielder became the most expensive new player in the history of the Fort Lauderdale team.
The previous record belonged to Rodolfo Pizarro when he joined Inter Miami from Monterrey for 10.9 million euros in 2019. De Paul's contract with Inter Miami is for 3 years.
Inter Miami show their ambition to win a second consecutive Supporters' Shield as well as prepare for the Leagues Cup taking place at the end of the month.
The signing of De Paul is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the midfield while maintaining the understanding with Messi, who together with him won the 2022 World Cup, 2021 and 2024 Copa America for Argentina. This is also the next piece in the experienced squad with names such as Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suárez.
Messi is still negotiating a contract extension with Inter Miami, while Busquets is unlikely to stay after his current contract expires at the end of the season. If Busquets leaves, De Paul could become one of three “Special Players” for the team owned by president David Beckham. This group has salaries that exceed the salary ceiling allowed by Major League Soccer.
