iPhone 17 Pro Max has a superior camera

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is currently expected to have the best telephoto camera on the market. This is a type of lens in a phone or camera with a long focal length, used to zoom in, blur the background naturally to capture portraits, scenes from a distance clearly.

Reports say the 12MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom on the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be replaced by a 48MP Tetraprism camera with improved zoom. Leaker Instant Digital has further reinforced these rumors with a recent post on Weibo.

According to a reputable source, the telephoto camera of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have movable lenses, allowing for different focal lengths. Specifically, it can switch between 5x and 8x optical zoom levels, giving users more flexibility when shooting objects at a distance.

A telephoto lens that can move the lens to change focal length would require more space, which may partly explain why the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a larger camera cluster.

In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro, and most other high-end smartphones today, are only equipped with a fixed-focal-length telephoto camera. This means users only have a single level of optical zoom (for example, 3x or 5x).

There are also conflicting rumors about whether the 48MP telephoto camera will appear on both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, or whether it will be exclusive to the Pro Max. If both models are equipped, the difference will likely lie in the lens structure and zoom capabilities.

According to a previous rumor, the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro, like the main camera, will use a hybrid lens of glass and plastic. This telephoto camera will be 1/2.6 inches in size, larger than the 1/3.1 inch sensor on the iPhone 16 Pro duo.

Meanwhile, Samsung has ditched the 10x telephoto camera. Its Galaxy S25 Ultra only comes with a 5x zoom sensor, which many users complain is not enough for long-range photography. The iPhone 17 Pro Max camera may have that, but it’s unclear whether that’s enough to make Samsung’s loyal users switch to iPhone.

In addition, the improved camera system comes with a new design, integrated AI applications and faster processing chips. Therefore, the iPhone 17 models are also expected to be more expensive than usual.
