Isak's discontent with Newcastle is a positive sign for Liverpool. |
According to The Guardian , the 25-year-old striker is frustrated that the club has not fulfilled its promise to offer him a new contract with a higher salary. Currently, Isak has not signed a contract extension with the "Magpies", amid increasing rumors of him moving to Liverpool.
Isak had previously been promised a new contract with a higher salary by Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, two former members of Newcastle's board. Isak currently earns £130,000 a week at Newcastle.
The Swedish striker was hoping to double his income. However, after Staveley and Ghodoussi sold their shares in Newcastle in March 2024, negotiations between Newcastle and Isak became deadlocked.
The club's new sporting director, Paul Mitchell, immediately put Isak's contract talks on hold, saying the Magpies needed to be wary of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) regulations. Mitchell left Newcastle in June, leading to delays in Isak's contract negotiations.
The player and his representatives are unhappy, believing the club have not kept their previous promises. The 25-year-old striker is contracted to Newcastle until 2028, but Liverpool's reported £120m offer could sway Isak.
