Agriculture accounts for a large proportion in the economic structure of Ka Do commune (Don Duong district), and is also a strength and has great development potential. In recent years, thanks to the continuous efforts in transforming the production model, applying science and technology and developing towards commodities, the local agricultural sector has had positive changes, contributing to improving people's lives.

Grasping the advantages of agricultural production, Ka Do commune determined that developing agriculture in the direction of commodity production is an inevitable direction. This is an important step to increase the value of agricultural products, increase income for people and promote local economic development. Thanks to the attention and synchronous implementation of many solutions, this transformation process has taken place quite quickly. Many specialized areas for vegetables and flowers with high productivity and economic value have been formed, meeting the increasing demand of the market. Competitive pressure encourages people to use capital more effectively, at the same time, actively apply science and technology (KH - KT), strengthen linkages and seek support from businesses and other economic organizations. According to Mr. Vo Minh Cuong - Chairman of Ka Do Commune People's Committee, the locality is currently one of the key vegetable raw material areas of Don Duong district. Local agricultural products not only meet local demand, supplying major cities in the country, but also supply many other production and processing units, including three foreign-invested companies operating locally. “Many farmers have also signed contracts to grow potatoes with Pepsico Company on an area of 100 hectares, with an average yield of more than 26 tons/ha,” he added.
This shift has contributed to creating new vitality for local trade and service activities. The number of trade and service establishments and business households has increased rapidly; business activities are increasingly vibrant and bustling. Currently, the whole commune has 7 enterprises and more than 500 trade and service households, including transportation, trade and services. These activities not only meet the increasing demand for shopping and exchanging goods of the people but also help circulate goods to the market quickly and effectively. Thanks to the development of trade and services, the agricultural economic efficiency of the commune has also been improved.
At the same time, Ka Do farmers are also actively applying science and technology to improve productivity and quality of agricultural products. “Based on the planning of the agricultural sector, the People's Committee of the commune has implemented solutions to promote economic restructuring, reorganize production, apply new varieties with high productivity and quality, apply scientific and technological advances, mechanization and automation in production. Many plans to serve economic development have been completed with stability and sustainability,” said Mr. Cuong. Currently, more than 84% of the local vegetable cultivation area applies automatic irrigation methods; many households apply cultivation techniques on substrates, helping to increase the land use coefficient by 2 to 3.5 times/year. The commune also implemented a high-tech application program, supporting investment in smart irrigation systems, fertilizer injectors and drip irrigation for 15 hectares, helping people improve production efficiency, with a total investment of more than 1 billion VND, funding from the State and the people. Thanks to the application of science and technology, the productivity and economic efficiency of Ka Do Agriculture have been significantly improved. The average income from high-tech vegetable production is from 350 to 400 million VND/ha/year, with some areas earning over 500 million VND/ha/year. "High-tech vegetable and flower production has achieved results in all three aspects: awareness, production value and model replication," said Mr. Cuong.
On the other hand, the locality has also actively promoted and supported people to transform their production and business models from small-scale to linkages, cooperatives (HTX) and enterprises. With the attention of local authorities, many production and service organizations, especially cooperative groups (THT) for growing and consuming agricultural products, have been formed and operated effectively. Currently, the whole commune has 3 THTs, including Tien Ri THT, Thanh Nien Safe Vegetable Production THT and Dairy Cow Breeding THT. These THTs all have stable production and business and have contributed a lot to the overall development of the locality.
In order to ensure the sustainable modernization of agriculture, Ka Do commune also focuses on attracting and effectively using investment capital for agricultural production programs and projects in the direction of high-tech agriculture. Especially investing in developing types of enterprises and cooperatives to purchase and process agricultural products after harvest. These projects are being implemented with good progress, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to solving local employment and promoting local economic and social development.
The agricultural modernization process in Ka Do has brought many positive results in recent years, both in terms of economic and social development and improving people's lives. In 2023, the average income per capita of the commune reached 63 million VND/person; the rate of near-poor households decreased to 1.37% (compared to 2.46% in 2022)... This result is a testament to the efforts to transform the thinking and working methods of the locality over the past time.
