Hoang Thi My Tam's 5-0 victory over Iranian fighter Saadati Fateme in the women's 55kg individual final on the afternoon of May 25 proved why the 22-year-old fighter is considered the future of Vietnamese Karate.

Hoang Thi My Tam defeated Iranian boxer Saadati Fateme in the women's individual final of the 55kg weight class to win the Gold medal.

This is My Tam's second consecutive Asian gold medal, after winning the title in 2024. My Tam not only successfully defended her Asian championship title, but also did so in a convincing manner. This is a remarkable result of a journey that was not accidental, but was created from the courage, steely will and methodical investment of the coaching staff.

In addition to Hoang Thi My Tam's victory in the sparring event, the return to the top of women's team kata after a decade has become a shining highlight for the journey to affirm Vietnam Karate's position in the continent. Accordingly, Bui Ngoc Nhi, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc Tram and Nguyen Thi Phuong represented Vietnam Karate to compete in women's team kata. In particular, Nguyen Thi Phuong and Nguyen Ngoc Tram, with their experience of winning gold medals in the women's team performance event at the 19th ASIAD in 2023, are expected to help Vietnam Karate make history.

Not disappointing the coaching staff's expectations, the girls of the Vietnamese team with a total score of 42.10 surpassed the Chinese team (41.70 points) to bring home the gold medal.

The gold medal in the women's team kata event is a symbol of an emotional legacy. The quartet of Bui Ngoc Nhi, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc Tram and Nguyen Thi Phuong have created a miracle since the gold medal won by Nguyen Hoang Ngan, Do Thi Thu Ha and Nguyen Thi Hang in 2015. And when this event won the gold, the name that received the most attention was Do Thi Thu Ha. The female martial artist of that time is now taking on the role of head coach to guide her students to repeat the miracle in the event where she once shined. For this coach, the smallest things such as discipline, perseverance and pride in wearing the national team jersey are the foundation for big dreams.

Vietnam Karate's third gold medal at the 2025 Asian Karate Championship came from the women's team kumite event after the Vietnamese girls won 2-0 against Kazakhstan in the final. The victory in the event that the team won in the 2024 tournament continued to demonstrate the stability of expertise and the depth of the Vietnamese Karate force.

In addition to the 3 gold medals mentioned above, Vietnamese Karate also won a bronze medal thanks to martial artist Nguyen Ngoc Tram in the individual kata category after unfortunately losing to martial artist Lau Mo Sheung Grace (Hong Kong, China) in the semi-finals.

With the achievement of 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, excellently ranked 3rd overall, just after Kazakhstan and Japan, Vietnam Karate continues to affirm its position as the top team in Asia. The success in Uzbekistan is not only the result of individual efforts and team spirit, but also a clear demonstration of the training process of inheritance - transfer - development of Vietnam Karate. From former athletes now playing leading roles, to young faces on the rise, Vietnam Karate is showing that it has both breadth and depth for the journey ahead.

In the immediate future, the team will aim for the 2025 World Karate Championship in Egypt, where a bigger challenge awaits, but it is also an opportunity for Vietnamese Karate to continue to affirm its mettle on the global arena.
